Global anti-corruption organisation, Transparency International, has disowned Transparency in Nigeria, an organisation that claims to represent the international body in the country.

TI said it had no links with the organisation and had written to the organisation to it stop associating its work with Transparency International.

In an electronic statement sent to our correspondent titled, "Transparency International asks Nigerian organisation to stop using its name and logo," the group also dissociated itself from a report purportedly measuring implementation.

The statement read, "Several articles published in the Nigerian press last week referred to a report titled, 'Budget Discipline Perception Index 2012/2013,' by Transparency in Nigeria.

"Transparency International has no links with Transparency in Nigeria,  nor does it currently have an affiliate in Nigeria. Transparency International is not responsible for the report and does not endorse its content."

The purported report, issued by one Abba Anwar as North-West Coordinator of TIN, had listed Kano State as the most fiscally responsible in budget discipline in the 2012/2013 fiscal year, with Lagos  State second, while Nasarawa and Edo states were joint third on the list.

It also listed Adamawa, Bayelsa and Enugu states as the worst states in terms of proper and appreciable budget discipline.
