Mend’s Threat Against Muslims Counterproductive –arewa Youth Forum by dulaman: 12:58pm On Apr 16, 2013
Arewa Youth Forum (AYF) yesterday replied Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND) over its threat to attack Muslims and mosques in the Niger Delta, describing it as callous and counterproductive.
MEND had in a statement on Sunday threatened to unleash terror on Muslims in Niger Delta May 31 in retaliation of alleged killings of Christians and bombing of churches by Boko Haram members in the north.
Reacting to the threat in Kaduna yesterday, AYF’s National Director of Public Affairs Bello Abdulhammed described the threat of the militants as unfortunate.
“MEND, as usual, is putting spanners in the works for unpatriotic selfish economic benefits. Aside the colossal amounts being paid their leadership and training of Niger Delta youths abroad to the obvious disadvantage of other Nigerian youths outside the area.
“MEND is hereby warned that they do not have monopoly of ideas, strength or ability. The youths of the north and other Nigerians are united and shall face them to truncate any of their threats which are aimed at separating Nigerians along religious or ethnic divides for their selfish economic goals.
“It is very sad and mind boggling that instead of supporting and ensuring that President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan succeeds in finding lasting solution to the present security challenge in the north, MEND has re-opened another ‘insecurity theatre’ in the Niger Delta to cause distraction and make him fail,” AYF said. http://dailytrust.com.ng/index.php/news-news/52306-mend-s-threat-against-muslims-counterproductive-ayf
