Last week Movie Markers resumed the coverage of the new movies showing in cinemas in Nigeria along with some data and comments to help you decide if you should spend at least an hour of your time watching it.

This week the new movies showing in Nigerian cinemas (Silverbird Cinemas, Ozone Cinemas, Genesis Deluxe Cinemas and The Filmhouse Surulere) are Trance, The gods Are Still Not To Blame and The Lion of Judah

My Take: The jury is still out on this one…

Trance
Director: Danny Boyle
Cast: James McAvoy, Vincent Cassel, Rosario Dawson, Matt Cross,
Synopsis: Simon (James McAvoy), a fine art auctioneer, teams up with a criminal gang to steal a Goya painting worth millions of dollars, but after suffering a blow to the head during the heist he awakens to discover he has no memory of where he hid the painting. When physical threats and torture fail to produce answers, the gang’s leader Frank (Vincent Cassel) hires hypnotherapist Elizabeth Lamb (Rosario Dawson) to delve into the darkest recesses of Simon’s psyche. As Elizabeth begins to unravel Simon’s broken subconscious, the lines between truth, suggestion, and deceit begin to blur. – Fox Searchlight

Rotten Tomatoes (audience reviews): 74%
IMDb: 7.3/10
Metacritic (User Score): 7.2/10
My Take: Danny Boyle put together seasoned actors for this thriller which has got good reviews and lovers of his works like 28 days Later and Slumdog Millionaire are no doubt like this one too.

The Lion of Judah
Director: Deryck Broom, Roger Hawkins
Starring: Ernest Borgnine, Scott Eastwood, Michael Madsen, Omar Benson Miller, Anupam Kher
Synopsis: When Judah the Lamb is taken by the townspeople to become a sacrifice, his six new friends from a Bethlehem stable have to go to his rescue! An incredible adventure follows, full of danger, drama and heroes. Judah’s new friends, led by Slink the clever mouse (Ernest Borgnine) and Esmay the motherly cow (Sandy Patti) meet up with Jack (Scott Eastwood), a teen-aged donkey with an attitude! Jack is less than happy to be part of the crew, but when the furry and feathered band of stable animals getseparated and need saving, it’s Jack who rushes to their rescue. Even the best efforts of Jack and the rest of the stable friends are not enough to save Judah. In this incredible tale of adventure and compassion, it takes the greatest hero of all, The King, to save Judah… and all the other animals, too! – Official Site

Rotten Tomatoes (audience reviews): 58%
IMDb: 3.1/10
Metacritic (User Score): 0/10
My Take: This movie doesn’t exactly have lovely reviews from both the critics and the cinema goers so this just might not be the movie to go and watch with high hopes. And even if you still want to watch it, it was first released in 2011 with it’s DVD released in 2012 so why not get that and not risk dozing off in the cinema.
