STRONG QUALITIES:

The melancholic person has the highest IQ among other people. His emotional life is deep, rich and varied. He has the richest and most sensitive nature of all the temperaments. He is emotionally responsive and motivated to reflective thinking through his emotions. His creative thinking ability helps him to be inventive. He has strong will coupled with talent and power. Though he is slow, he is not lazy at his work. He works carefully and reliably.

He has strong perfectionist tendencies. He standard of excellence is too high. His analytical abilities coupled with his perfectionist tendencies make him to be too detailed in everything. He can be depended upon to finish whatever job in the prescribed time. He is reserved and extremely self-disciplined. He doesnt eat much. When he is engaged in a work; he makes sure that he meets the deadline even if it means to work round the clock.


WEAK QUALITIES

Criticism is the most damaging influence in his life and melancholy needs to fight this. His first reaction to any work is always negative and pessimistic. This attitude limits his performance in anything he does. He is impossible to satisfy. His high standard usually turns inward making him very dissatisfied with himself. He tends to compare himself with others on looks, talent, and intellect, invariably feeling deficient because he does not know that he compares himself to the best of another persons trait and fails to evaluate his weakness. His self centered tendencies, together with his sensitive nature makes him thick-skinned at times.

At times he feels so high like the sanguine, on other times he feels so down.He is almost always gloomy, irritable, unhappy and impossible to please. These moods make him depressed. He is rigid, uncompromising to the extent of unreasonableness. He is intolerant and impatient with those who do not see things the way he sees them. There is self-repression in his behaviour. Even when he is passionately stirred he will not display his feelings. The melancholic temperament is the most complicated and difficult person to understand. A harsh or offensive word gives him pain. He is prone to silence, sadness, depression and discouragement. He always look worried, sad and troubled in his appearance.
The melancholic always questions other people's motives without reason. He is slow to trust, quick to dislike and resent, he is pröne to hate others for no reason. He can be suspicious even of his devoted friends. He hardly forgives or forgets an injury done to him. He is not social, he is a shy person. He feels that he is not understood, not wanted, not liked. He fears responsibility, when he must accept it, it worries him greatly.
He neither makes a good leader nor a good follower. He is a dreamer and loves doing things his own way and it is not always the shortest or most effective way. Infact he is hard to deal or work with. Hè finds it difficult to make a decisiön due to fear of difficulty and possìbility that his plans may fail. Another characteristic of the melancholy is that he is prone to be revengeful. Although he appears to be calm or quiet on the surface, but he is not. Infact, he is introverted by nature.
