Association of Pathologists of Nigeria, an affiliate of the Nigerian Medical Association, on Wednesday expressed disappointment over the failure of the Federal Government to bring peace to the health sector. The organisation also flayed the politicisation of strikes by the Joint Health Sector Unions. The group also called on other medical professionals in the sector to reconsider their threats to go on strike in the interest of the country. The President of the APN, Dr. Kenneth Iregbu, who raised the alarm at a briefing, regretted that the health care system in the country was being sacrificed to please people "on an ego trip" in a bid to satisfy their inordinate ambition. According to him, those who are agitating that doctors should stop heading hospitals are ignorant. He said, "Though the blame for the rivalry cuts across, the government should take all the blame because it is taking everything from a political perspective. Government has been doing nothing; the Federal Ministry of Health has done nothing tangible about the contentious issues. Government has failed to put its feet down in finding solutions. "How can children be involved in fracas and their father is doing nothing? May be they are waiting for the children to kill themselves. We have raised the alarm from our own angle. The government has refused to do the right thing and they know the right thing to do. It is our desire that this situation does not go on like this. There have been several committees to resolve the issues in the past, but what have become of such committees?" Iregbu defended the call for emergency in the health sector. He said, "The situation calls for a declaration of state of emergency in the health sector. We are saying this because those who are in position to take the right decision or enforce the right thing chose to keep quiet believing that the problems will go away. It might end up being the causalities of a near collapsed healthcare system." www.punchng.com |

pathologists are waking up now when they allow medical lab scientists to take over their works. they are lazy and bossing around. in all countries of the world apart from nigeria pathologists direct pathology laboratories. that is why diagnosis is more accurate than in nigeria. medical laboratories without pathologists are cemeteries |

Laalamed: pathologists are waking up now when they allow medical lab scientists to take over their works. they are lazy and bossing around. in all countries of the world apart from nigeria pathologists direct pathology laboratories. that is why diagnosis is more accurate than in nigeria. medical laboratories without pathologists are cemeteries I kind of agree with you. I think the whole sector should be overhauled and remodelled after a functioning system that has stood the test of time, just like the one operating in the US |
