OMGS dumb thread. dont you know why is that? its because we have a large ethnic and language diversity and people would fight if we chose one over the other. are diversity is much more than tiny nations like Somalia. even India has english as its official language for this very reason. there were actual riots that took place over this issue. |
Re: Official Languages Of African Countries---very Sad by somalia5: 3:48pm On May 03, 2013 |
PAGAN 9JA: somalia is big country by geography....and population wise its bigger than many other countries in africa so you would rather choose the white mans language who oppressed you rather than pick one of your many languages....lol india was colonized too, thats why its official language is english. 2 Likes |

Eze Promoe: their is a difference between learning a thrid language, to communicate, than taking a language of the people who oppressed you and making it your official language..... very big difference, if you cant see that, than this would explain why all of subsaharan africa except somalia, ethiopia, eritrea have european languages as their national languages..... i wonder why it is these three horn countries that are different......also happens to be the 3 countries in subsahran africa that look beautiful, have the longest recorded history, have never been enslaved..... 1 Like |

Eze Promoe: europeans did come to somalia 500 years ago....they were kicked out......than they came back 100 years ago.....when they left we burned down their buildings.......and when we got our independence we chose our langauge to be our national language..... Europeans went to west africa and enslaved you.....even now when your free you perpetuate their langauge and culture |

somalia5:Nigeria is not a one tribe desert. Nigeria is a country with over 250 ethnic groups and English is used in other to communicate to all groups at the same time. We also use our native dialects in communicating to those from our tribes, there are also thousands of Radio/TV stations dedicated to these various tribes, e.g NTA Hausa, NTA Igbo, NTA Yoruba, Irawo Tv, Gamzaki, Odenigbo, Africa Magic Hausa, Africa Magic Yoruba etc etc. So stop using the brain of a refugee to define a free/domineering nation like Nigeria. 2 Likes |

Eze Promoe: Over the next several decades Somali-Portuguese tensions would remain high and the increased contact between Somali sailors and Ottoman corsairs worried the Portuguese who sent a punitive expedition against Mogadishu under Joao de Sepulveda, which was unsuccessful.[17] Ottoman-Somali cooperation against the Portuguese in the Indian Ocean reached a high point in the 1580s when Ajuuraan clients of the Somali coastal cities began to sympathize with the Arabs and Swahilis under Portuguese rule and sent an envoy to the Turkish corsair Mir Ali Bey for a joint expedition against the Portuguese. He agreed and was joined by a Somali fleet, which began attacking Portuguese colonies in Southeast Africa.[18] europeans enslaved those who were weak.... |

somalia5:That's why i say a refugee will always be a refugee. Even if he/she is made the president of U.S.A, will also think like a refugee. Nigeria has three of Africa's most influential ethnic groups. Imagine talking about making a common language in Europe where there are languages like English, French, Spanish, Italian, German etc. Which of these will go into extinction for the other. REFUGEES! Eze Promoe: Somalis became refugees 20 years ago.....and we have already elected a governmetn and their is peace....many somalis are already going back...... Just remember, you are too weak to defend yourself.....somalis in somalia have a word for negroids ' aqli lix saac' it means you only think for the now and not the future just like you guys didnt fight back against whites and became slaves....your culture will rot away because all your national langauges are in european....... this is the reason why somalis/ethiopians have a longer and richer recorded history...... |

somalia5:Which culture Hausa spoken in 10 countries, Yoruba in 4 countries, Igbo in 3 countries. We bear names in our languages, and still speak our languages amongst ourselves. There are cities you'll go to in Nigeria and you'll never hear English on the streets. |
Re: Official Languages Of African Countries---very Sad by somalia5: 4:49pm On May 03, 2013 |
Eze Promoe: yet your governmetns all 46 of them in subsahran africa who are negroid have chosen european languages....and it just so happens the only good looking people in africa who have a history , who were never enslaved speak their own languages as their national language; somalia, ethiopia, eritrea |

The common people of those african country usually speak their own language as their first language. The European languages are usually spoken in government/ public settings. BTW a lot of these countries have an african language and a European language as their official languages, just like it has for eritrea. |
Re: Official Languages Of African Countries---very Sad by PAGAN9JA(m): 8:14am On May 04, 2013 |
cmon the whole world needs to know English. how do you expect a Nigerian to trade with a Japanese person, for example? English is a must. The End. the colonists have globalized the world and made it interdependent. so we need to make use of their language. ofcourse you need to learn your mother tongue first. 1 Like |

PAGAN 9JA: LoooL, Somalis and ethiopians speak english and have their native langauge as the language of their governments...... you dont think it has to do with mental enslavement held over from physical enslavement the fact you are all free but still choose to cling to the languages of your masters what a self perpetuating prophecy, when the language of your own governments is that of those of your oppressors your decendants will be complaining just like you people are now, why their languages are extinct.... every langauge must have a governmetn behind it, constantly funding and supporting it, as langauge always changes...... |

NOT "NATIONAL LANGUAGES" . ANY COUNTRY WHO DOESNT USE ENGLISH AS AN "OFFICIAL" LANGUAGE, IN MY OPINION IS A BACKWARD NATION. E.G. SOMALIA. |
