That money isn't enough to generate 20 thousand megawatt . Power generation is based on the kilowatt or megawatt generated. 1 killowatt is equivalent to $800 -$2000 depending on the technology such as back pressure and the make, it could be siemen, hitachi or toshiba. 1 mega watt cost one million to 2 million dollars and a thousand megawatt cost about 1 billion to 2 billion dollars. 20,000 megawatt should cost about 20.5 billion USD . I have seen large sugar refineries and paper mills paying about 60-80 million usd to generate about 60 megawatt for their plant. The geregu power station after lokoja cost about 525 million usd to generate 425 megat watt . In my own opinion that money isn't enough to build 20,000 mega watt

Isn't it laughable that people in Canada heard it before we that are to benefit directly from the 'good news'?
On the other hand, why can't the project be ready before we're told the amount that was spent on it.

We are already generating 20000 megawatts already the challenge is that the existing transmission infrastructure cant transmit the 20000 megawatts already generated.see attached link.

HNosegbe:

The answer to your question is simple. We run a unitary system IN PRACTICE, where the Feds control 52% of national revenues. Besides, the FG has the monopoly of power transmission and distribution, meaning there's nothing to "ask" the states and local govts as far as the power sector is concerned.

When we reform our economic structure to make states viable economic units, then we'll be better equipped to hold governors accountable.
Sorry but that is an unsatisfactory response. The guy is correct that you people rarely ever attack your own state govts, and power supply is not the only area of development requiring attention. The states get at least half the federal revenue don't they? That is countless billions of dollars annually.

HNosegbe: Who came up with this estimate? How was the figure arrived at? How do we know it's not inflated? Where will the funding come from? Over what time frame will this be completed? What checks are in place to prevent misappropriation? Who will supervise the use of these funds?

Most importantly, WHEN WILL NIGERIANS FEEL THE IMPACT?

More questions than answers.

Nice contribution, in advance countries, investments like this are subject to public discussions and contributions are gathered from every angles before approving an huge investment like this so that the questions above will not arise. Opposite is the case in Nigeria, don't be surprised even if the senate is not aware of it.

That is not what we are generating, that stuff is in Gw/Hr, How can you say Us is generating 4.3 million GW/Hr,Nigeria's installed generating capacity is about 6000MW

Donaeo: That is not what we are generating, that stuff is in Gw/Hr, How can you say Us is generating 4.3 million GW/Hr,Nigeria's installed generating capacity is about 6000MW

Nigeria's Installed Capacity is a little more than 6400MW, yet we can only wheel out less than 5000MW to the Grid cos of very inadequate Transmission Infrastructure over the years. From the 10 new Power plants and repairs on some of the Legacy plants and a few other plants like the Rivers State Plant, it is expected that the Installed capacity would increase to more than 10,000MW in the next 2 years or so. And then once the investments starts to flow in post-privatization down the years, many more thousand MWs would be generated by Private concerns. How would all these 'captive' Power be Evacuated/Transmitted to the Grid and then to our homes/businesses.

Transmission has always been one of the MAIN 'weak links' in our Power chain (others like the Regulatory environment and Generation is been addressed by the current Admin), and we wouldn't go far if it is not addressed frontally, both for today and fro tomorrow. The Government have done well in giving up Management and Day-to-Day running of TCN to the Reputable Manitoba International, BUT Alternative funding for the Modernization and serious upgrade/expansion of the Transmission Infrastructure should also be pursued. That is what I think is been done here.

Whilst concerns about the proper use of the funds could and should be asked considering our past, believe me: THIS IS a VERY, VERY, VERY, VERY GOOD MOVE by the Government; something that should have been done like 40 years ago and continuously too, for that matter.
