Remii: This is really sad, Nigeria must have lost more that 100 security personel and many more civilians within days when we are not at war. This is beyound religious insurgency. Govt need to do something, how can people loose their lives just because they are police or army?

nigeria has been destroyed due to selfishness of few.

Best thing is to divide the country.

The above statement makes me chuckles. It's a very popular press statement by Nigerian Police spoke person. Lemme reserve my comment on that to sympathise with the innocents that lost their lives. Methinks, the death figure disclosed by the force spokeman is exaggerated the Nigerian style, because compensation is coming for the families of the murdered cops and that figure means big boys ghosts benefits.
FOOL! So there are no records of officers in the police division anymore? NL has truely gone to the dogs.

@rawtruth/@idupaul,

Based of the little understanding acquired since I first start reading about the crisis in Nassarawa this morning, I am also inclined to agree about the political undertones you mentioned. This, of course, does not excuse the insurrection which resulted in the loss of some many lives or even the "forced" conscription of Eggon youths to a militia group

idupaul: Na wa ooo .. In an attempt by the CPC led govt to dislodge a christian militia to allow free passage for Fulani herdsmen to continue their reign of terror in the middle belt our Policemen have become the casualty in this daibolic plot by Fulani herdmen to own the fertile grounds of the Middle belt.. Before the week ends Nigeria Army will burn down eggon and unknowingly create a free corridor for Fulani herdmen to finish of TIv farmers.. Some Complex scene .. Its not easy for Jonathan does he wipe out the Ombatse and allow the untouchable Fulani reign supreme?

Not only "Tiv farmers"; the Agatu people of Idoma land have just been added to the fulani "wish list": four people lost their lives while eight villages were burnt to ashes there by fulani militia/mercenaries who crossed from governor Al-Makura' state to carry out the attacks in Benue state. Maybe the governor may claim ignorance of the presence of the dare-devil mercenaries in his state, but is aware of Ombatse which is less active than these fulani-hired mass murderers.

I believe a big lesson must be thought to any person or group that wantonly kills law enforcement personnel ..But my question is who will bell the Fulani after that because the fear of Fulani marauders brought rise to the Ombatse.

Don't get me wrong. I only tried to give an insight into the background leading to this horrible events. The act was barbaric and inexcusable; read my post well. By the way, two of the dead police officers are from my community, the third one is battling for his life at Dalhatu specialist hospital in Lafia.

Who gave the militia group information that the police were coming to arrest their leader? This whole story is really not straight to me. I strongly feel the police soldout their men to this killers! The security outfit should look among themselfs they will find who is behind the information leak before they were ambush.

rawtruth: "Ombatse", as is being speculated, was formed by the Eggon ethnic tribe of Nassarawa state to counter terrorist activities of fulani herdsmen who have turned the state into a jungle-killing ground. Fulani militia/mercenaries, in spite of their dare-devil attacks on farming communities across the region, have been doing their best to avoid confrontation with Ombatse. That's why Eggon farms, unlike those of the Tivs of Nassarawa and parts of Benue state, have remained free from the trampling hoofs of cattle herds.

Governor Al-Makura, while ignoring the fulani militias/mercenaries who have camps in Doma LGA and have cleansed the Tivs of Doma and part of Benue state, designated Ombatse a "cult group" and has vowed to destroy it at all cost. Watchers of events in Nassarawa state are saying that the governor views the group as a threat to his ambition to retain his seat come 2015. Such views gained their credence from the conspicuous tendency of the governor to ally more closely with fulani migrants than with the "Christian tribes" of the state. There are accusations here and there that the governor does the wishes of the Sokoto Islamic Caliphate, which has no respect for the wishes other ethnic groups in the north, save their converts/acolytes.

By irrationally and foolishly killing security agents, the Ombatse has dug the grave for the mass burial of its own people; something the governor has been trying to do since he assumed office in 2011.
^^^^ hmmmmmm!!!! Alot of crap going down it that story.Fulani again? In the past i thought TIVs were the ones having field day in Doma attacking at will.Things have turn again?anyway people need to think away from always blaming a boogy man. What happened to hoodlums and criminals.Lets not create sentiments and excuses for murderers abeg. The government security officials are humans.I also think your view of the Islamic caliphate and her concern,is born out of the usual rumors xtians pedal amongst minorities to keep the tensions, likewise Muslims selling same as in blaming CAN or xtian leaders.
We need to put all this excuses and let criminals be called criminals. What has this got to do with all that story you are pedaling. Were this hoodlums armed? yes!Is it legal? No,they must have done something beyond the usual self defense to warrant the police raid.I know certain groups hold arms in the country today but hardly would Government raid them if they keep to there domain or respect the government officials.
Now the question is what did they do for Police to think they need to clamp down on them? Why did this armed group see the arrest of one man as a declaration of war.I think the lawyers and courts are there and if they knew about this in advance he could make arrangements to counter them legally.I think they wanted to send a message that they are also deadly and have no regards for the blood they choose to spill.Period!!!!! sad times for the innocent and law enforcers!!! cry cry cry

What annoys me most is dat when soldiers go on reprisal attacks now the UNHRC will now know how to beam the searchlight on so called extra judicial killings while giving a blind eye and deaf ears to the unprovoked incessant attacks and killings of innocent security agents and civilians. Bunch of crazy scumbags!

The Fulani's have become scapegoats for every violence committed in Nigeria to the exend that if a group like the 'ombatse' committed a mass murder of our security men, it will be explained as a deed done out of their fear of the Fulani.

Sometimes i baffle at how our security operative go out for operations without adequately preparing. I expect federal operative to have access to a map of the community, know all the access route have different strategy on how to apprehend these individuals.

How can over 50 agents all head towards the same direction on the same path...? I empathise with the families of the deseased but will lay the blame on the continued corruption that has dug deep into our security agencies depite the huge allocation to security we still don't invest in the training and retraining of our personnel.

The people of this community had murdered sleep...

LOL, so it's the fulani that's to be blamed for the killing of our police men by a militia group from a Benue-related tribe?

Nigerians! chai, i now see why this country is sinking every passing day!

This war has nothing to do with Islam or Christianity as “Ombatse“ members & virtually all inhabitants of Assakio village are neither Xtians nor Muslims. They worship their deity fondly called “Baba“ who d poilce wanted to arrest. Anyone can find out dt... I‘m not condoning illegality but why do d Police “our friends“ ar just bn killed like chikens everyday? In Bayelsa, at Bama, at Lafia... Why?

I am seriously vexed. This sort of news keeps popping up practically on daily basis. These terrorists and militia continue to offer Jonathan an opportunity to show he has balls and Jona keeps acting like a coward. Send soldiers to that town or village, equiped with intelligent monitoring and report and phase out these bar-stards who obviously think they're above the law.

They are relevant in middle belt fight to stem Fulani herdmen incursion.. So the Nigerian Army should temper justice with mercy just like they did with GEJs brothers that killed 19 policemen

Sad news R.I.P to the dead constabulary men, Its unclear am suprised how a cult group who claimed to use ordinary matchet alone could inflict such casualty to heavily armed men.
