The Tottenham Hotspur loanee scored his second crucial winner for Charlton at the weekend, displaying the same knack that has been evident at his parent club of late.


For Tottenham Hotspur fans, their only clear memory of Jon Obika this season will be when the 22-year-old missed a chance to level in the FA Cup loss at Leeds United.

However the forward enjoyed more success against Leeds in the Championship with Charlton Athletic, and has shown encouraging glimpses of his talent whilst on loan that Spurs fans should take note of, following up impressing performances for Spurs' under-21 side earlier this season.




Obika has been used sparingly at the South London club, starting only once and usually only being given a handful of minutes at the end of games to have an impact. However that might now change as he scored his second 90th minute winner in a row at the Valley to earn Charlton three points against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday,

In Charlton's previous home game, Obika scored the deciding goal against Leeds, and his two goals for Chris Powell's team have come in only 123 minutes on the pitch, half of which were in the 1-0 loss to Burnley.

Obika will be hoping that his late heroics might lead to a starting place for Powell in Charlton's last two matches against Middlesbrough and already relegated Bristol City. Sitting in 9th, five points off a pay-off place, Charlton will need a fairly dramatic set of events to extend their season beyond 46 matches, but they have been in good form of late to climb into the top ten in the division.

Interestingly, it was another old Spurs name who opened the scoring for Charlton against Wolves. Defender Dorian Dervitte never had the chance to break into the Tottenham Hotspur first team, but he has been excellent for Charlton this season, making 28 appearances in the heart of their defence.

Dervitte never made it at Spurs, but Obika still has a chance although you feel that it would have to be next season if he is to make an impact at White Hart Lane, and one or two more goals on loan this year would set him up well for a vital pre-season.
