APC Confused On State Of Emergency by sammyzacks(m): 10:16pm On May 17, 2013
It was a gale of confusion in the ranks of the so called All Progressive Congress (APC) reminiscent of the name fiasco when the group went public with their name only to find out that the name had already been taken by at least two other groups before them.

This time around, the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) and the All Nigerian Peoples Party (ANPP) have each given separate and contradictory reactions to the State of Emergency declared by President Goodluck Jonathan on Tuesday the 14th of May 2013.

While the ACN condemned the President and asked the National Assembly not to ratify the declaration, the CPC speaking through its National Publicity Secretary, Rotimi Fashakin, at first commended the President only for Buba Galadima, the party's National Secretary to make a volte face the next day and issue a condemnation. To crown the confusion, the ANPP has within the hour commended the move. Yet the three parties claim to be merging as one with two of them holding winding up conventions.

The ACN National Publicity Secretary, Lai Mohammed issued the following statement two days ago “We hereby reject the declaration of emergency rule in the three states of Adamawa, Borno and Yobe, and we call on the National Assembly to also reject it and not allow itself to be used to rubber-stamp a declaration that is largely cosmetic,”. On the same day, Buba Galadima issued the following statement “The insecurity was not caused by the so-called Boko Haram, but by the government who were killing people to make them to pick arms against government. This is my standard as somebody from Borno and Yobe. My people has been short-changed and killed arbitrarily.".

The statement by the ANPP in support of the emergency was issued by no less a personality than the party's National Chairman, Ogbonaya Onu who supported and commended the President for retaining the civilian governors instead of replacing them as his predecessors in office did.
