The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) announced in Abuja on Tuesday that it would release some persons detained in connection with terrorist activities.

The Director of Defence Information, Brig-Gen. Chris Olukolade, said in a statement that the decision to release the suspected terrorists was based on the directives of President Goodluck Jonathan.

Jonathan had declared state of emergency in Borno, Yobe and Adamawa on May 14.

The statement said the move was in furtherance of the Federal Government’s position in response to requests by the Presidential Committee on Dialogue and Reconciliation.

“The measure which is in line with presidential magnanimity to enhance peace efforts in the country will result in freedom for suspects, including all women under custody.

“The details of the directives and those to benefit from this gesture have been communicated to field units and the Joint Task Force, ‘’ it said.

The statement said that the beneficiaries would be released to the state governors who would be involved in further rehabilitation before the suspects were released to their respective community leaders and relations. (NAN)

what u dont know that what this gesture means is that the coast is clear , why didn't gej release them before ?now the coast is clear and by releasing them it proves that gej has no hidden agenda this will pacify the northern masses ,it is a well calculated political move and this will also mount pressure on to cease fire

But the evidence shows that the most active members of BH like most things up North are men.

It is a very pragmatic move by the Presidency

Those who can be convinced to choose a different future must be encouraged to do so, expecially if their criminal complicity is yet in doubt

This action betrays the rumor that the State of Emergency is a success. If the SoE is a success then GEJ has earned political and military advantage to force bokoharam into tight-end negotiation. He should not be in a hurry to yield grounds to them. That negotiation should include in the minimum the following top three demands:

1. that Shekau and the top leadership of boko must surrender, their field operations in Nigeria and command posts must be decommissioned and submitted to authorities

2. that a rehabilitation programme be setup and they must accept the guidelines of the programme

3. that their women and children will be released in exchange for investigation and prosecution of their active male members.

Jonathan has lately been prosecuting the war against Boko Haram with the toughness and grace the problem deserves and I think he is doing just fine. Whoever he has been listening to lately he should keep listening to the person as far as BH is concerned.

Has the North made their incarceration an issue? No! While the bottom line is about carrots and sticks, the President must not handout free carrots before its demanded. What is he getting in return for this gesture?
