Four foreigners held hostage by some kidnappers at Borikiri area of Port Harcourt have regained their freedom, as confirmed by the Police.

Rivers State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Angela Agabe, who confirmed the news gave the names of the victims as Vadym Shytov, from Ukraine; Obaya Marak, from Kiribati; Mikhail Teresgji, from Russia and Oleksiv Ishmyetvev, from Ukraine.

She said the victims who were kidnapped off the coast of Bayelsa waters have been held hostage since April 22, stressing that they were seen around Borikiri area two days ago.

She said that after the police had identified where they were kept, the anti-kidnap squad quickly mobilised for a rescue operation.

She said the rescued foreigners had been handed over to their company, yet investigation was on top gear to fish out the kidnappers or anyone behind the abduction.
“The state commissioner of police, Mr MbuJoseph Mbu, received the hostages and handed them over to Mr Larry Etete, a company staff. Investigation is in progress,” Agabe said.

I think they don't mention that ransom was paid so that potential kidnappers will get discouraged.if for instance a frustrated youth keeps hearing ransom being paid in 6-9digits,he may decide that kidnapping is a lucrative business afterall. Then secondly, maybe they are trying to protect their "integrity".that's ironical cos integrity and lies don't go hand in hand.
