1.7ghz becomes not ridiculous if it's being powered by a high-end processor e.g. core i7. You can't compare a core i3 (2.4ghz) with a core i7 (1.7ghz). The latter will perform better and faster. Also, take into consideration the option of speed boost which will definitely give it an edge.
