CONFEDERATIONS CUP 2013: Goal-line Technology Will Debut On Friday by oluwaoghene: 4:39pm On Jun 08, 2013
Calls to introduce goal-line technology (GLT) have grown louder in recent seasons following a number of high-profile incidents, most notably the non-awarding of a goal after Frank Lampard’s shot crossed the line in the match between England and Germany at the 2010 FIFA World Cup™ in Bloemfontein.

The confederation cup will witness the use of goal-line technology. Brazil's Maracana stadium has been fitted with goal-line technology equipment ahead of the start of the Confederations Cup.

The tournament will be the first international competition to make use of the technology after it was tested during the 2012 Club World Cup in Japan.

Bjoern Linder, chairman of GoalControl, the company behind the system chosen by FIFA, says the process will be efficient and result in a quick, accurate decision.

"The whole system uses 14 cameras that are installed on the catwalk," he explained.

"We have seven cameras per goal and computers are connected to those cameras. The computers are catching the images - around 500 pictures per second - and we get by triangulation the position of the ball in real time, and once the computer precepts the ball has crossed the goal line it gives a signal to the referees' watch.

"So all the referees on the field will see the signal, it vibrates and gives an optical signal 'goal' and he knows a goal has occurred."

The English Premier League will become the first domestic competition to use goal-line technology from the start of next season.

Football will no longer be fun, soccer suppose to be natural, the clamour for best referee and linesman is taking over by computer, the power and descipline towards the umpire will now be checkmate by the storburn and holigan players that think the SUPER-REFEREE is incharge, must the developed nations incorporate cybertronics into all our daily lives.
technology is a wellcome development the only fear is "He who dictates the viper, dictates the tune"

As much as i agree with you that football is being taken over by computer, i think it is necessary. Nobody likes to see aa ref decision kill a game. I'm sure you will not be happy to let your team suffer the feat of Frank Lampard in 2010.
