Must our police men go abroad for medical check up.? Why do people in "high" places drag the name of this country in the mud? Worst of it all. the officers must pay with thier own money. Why force me to go abroad if you will not bear the bills.

People please let’s be careful how we criticize people on this forum. Mr. Okiro means well for the senior police officers by suggesting they go on mandatory medical check ups.

I disagree with the notion of them funding the bill or cost of the entire trip. This is where the government needs to step in play with some kind of allowance, compensation or build state of the art hospitals for our civil servants and not just the police force.

The medical practitioner that diagnoses Haz in this case should be summoned to account for his testing. Was it lack of equipment or just medical malpractice?

We are all going to die some day but I know this man personally and in my opinion, this death is untimely.

No one has any qualms about officers getting medical check up, infact it should be encouraged. However, if you look at the circumstances of the announcement, you would understand that it should not have taken the sudden death of our beloved Iwendi to start sending all officers overseas for medical treatment.

Most importantly, the officers could take their medical treatment locally if the NPF could equip and standardize even one of their hospitals in this country. The cost? I am sure it would be less than sending 200-300 officers for full medical evaluation overseas.

It's sad but its the truth, we don't act until a calamity or disaster befalls us. We need a leader with passion that is willing to take on the challenge to change this nation. so many things is wrong in Nigerian.

Is it not our doctors here who diagnosed Umoru's ailment wrongly the other day? They said he has one type of ailment, and were treating him for that until the man nearly died. They had to fly him abroad where he was properly diagnosed - albeit too late! damage is done already.

You are right with the fact that our government failed in properly equipping State owned Hospitals to properly cater for people's health. But we know too that the rot in practically all Nigerian parastatals did not just start and stop at the top alone. Middle and lower level officers are also guilty of quite a lot of heinous crimes in this country.

Onos! Are you now in Chad? You sef. Advising nigerians to seek medical help abroad is a laughable option. It will perpetuate the cycle of corruption. We need to fix the hospitals back home. We also need to be more critical of our doctors and sue for medical negligence if need be.
Nigerian doctors need to be on top of the situation instead of always going on strikes for increase in remunerations.
There is also no shame in telling a patient that you do not know what his ailment is. There is also no shame in cross-checking the side effects of drugs you are prescribing (Use BNF OR MIMS even in the presence of your patients). Medics!!! please wake up to your duties

I am trying to understand if you are of the idea that demanding these men go ABROAD ( no matter where they go ABROAD) to get medical checkup and more so, footing the bill themselves, is appropriate.

If the Nigerian police can boast of solving a single major crime within the last decade, fine they can travel to wherever they wish to go. But if it states otherwise, they should remain here and use the dilapidated hospitals with us.
