The 2013 Confederations Cup gets takes place in Brazil between June 15 and June 30 with eight national teams - each champions in their own rights - competing for glory.

We take a look at the eight countries in the competition and how they secured their place in the cup line-up.

Qualification route: Brazil automatically qualified for the 2013 Confederations Cup as the host nation.

1. BRAZIL
Head Coach: Luis Felipe Scolari

FIFA/Coca Cola World Ranking: 19th with 902 points

Key fact: Brazil have won the FIFA Confederations Cup three times making them the most successful team in the competition’s short history. Two of their titles came at the most recent tournaments: 2009 in South Africa and 2005 in Germany.

Fun fact: Brazil are the only country to have won the World Cup on four continents. Their first European World Cup title was won in Sweden in 1958 and then the team tasted victory again in the next tournament this time held in South America (Chile 1962). They won the title again in 1970 (Mexico) and 1994 (United States of America) on the continent of North America and achieved their Asian win in the 2002 World Cup in Korea and Japan.

2.SPAIN
Qualification route: 2010 World Cup Winners

Head Coach: Vicente del Bosque

FIFA/Coca-Cola World Ranking: 1st with 1538 points

Key fact: After victory at Euro 2012, Spain became the first country to hold three consecutive world and/or continent trophies (having won the World Cup 2010 and Euro 2008).

Fun fact: Upon winning the World Cup in South Africa, Spain became the first European country to win the trophy outside their home continent.

3.JAPAN
Qualifying route: 2011 AFC Asian Cup winners

Head Coach: Alberto Zaccheroni

FIFA/Coca-Cola World Ranking: 30th with 773 points

Key fact: Japan are the most successful team on the Asian continent having stormed to victory four times in the AFC Asian Cup.

Fun fact: Out of the previous four Confederations Cup competitions Japan have played in, their best finishing position has been as runners-up in 2001.

4.MEXICO
Qualifying route: 2011 CONCACAF Gold Cup winners

Head Coach: José Manuel da la Torre

FIFA/Coca-Cola World Ranking: 16th with 945 points

Key fact: Mexico suffered a 4-1 defeat at the hands of France during the first ever World Cup in the opening game of the 1930 tournament.

Fun fact: Because the South American confederation has only 10 members, North American team Mexico are often invited to participate in the Copa América. Out of the invited nations, Mexico have the strongest record in the Copa América having been runners-up twice in 1993 and 2001 and finished in third place in 1997, 1999 and 2007.
5.URUGUAY
Qualification route: 2011 Copa América winners.

Head Coach: Óscar Tabárez

FIFA/Coca-Cola World Ranking: 17th with 932 points

Key fact: Uruguay have won the Copa América 15 times - more than any other South American country.

Fun fact: Uruguay are the smallest South American population to have won the World Cup at all, let alone twice - which they did in 1930 and 1950.
6.TAHITI
Qualification route: 2012 OFC Nations Cup winners

Head Coach: Eddy Etaeta

FIFA/Coca-Cola World Ranking: 135th with 221 points

Key fact: This is the first Confederations Cup in which the team representing the Oceania region is neither Australia nor New Zealand - congratulations Tahiti! Australia moved to the Asia qualifying region in 2006 and New Caledonia knocked New Zealand out of the 2012 OFC Nations Cup with a 2-0 win over them in their semi-final match.

Fun fact: Tahiti's biggest recorded win was a massive 30-0 victory over the Cook Islands at the 1971 South Pacific Games which they also hosted.
7.ITALY
Qualification route: Euro 2010 runners-up. Invited to participate due to their victors, Spain, having already qualified as World Cup champions.

Head Coach: Casare Prandelli

FIFA/Coca-Cola World Ranking: 8th with 1117 points

Key fact: Italy is the most successful national team in Europe, having won the World Cup four times in 1934, 1938, 1982 and 2006. The only team in the world to top this record is Brazil having won five World Cup trophies.

Fun fact: Italy declined the invitation to compete in the first ever World Cup tournament in 1930. They then went on to win the next two tournaments .
8.NIGERIA
Qualification route: 2013 African Cup of Nations winners

Head Coach: Stephen Keshi

FIFA/Coca-Cola World Ranking: 28th with 780 points

Key fact: At the 1996 Atlanta Summer Olympic Games, Nigeria became the first African national team to win the gold medal.

Fun fact: Nigeria really love football. They love it so much that during the 1967 Biafran War, a 48 hour ceasefire was instated to allow both sides to watch Pelé play in Lagos!
