Do you think Nigeria is in a terrible state today? think again where we would be if there was no crude oil in this country. We would have been worse than the poorest country in the world.
In light of these,It would be wise to every now an then pause to say thank God for the crude oil region that lays the golden egg in which every other region in these country feeds from.
Every state that does not produce crude oil in the country should be thankful to their neighbor that does cause without them what ever minute development in their state will not be possible teachers/ workers will not be paid , hospitals will not be built or funded, roads will not be built/ maintained etc etc
You owe the oil producing communities bigtime,Their natural resources sustains the nation.

As long as appreciation is being given to those whose natural resources sustains the nation it dosent matter which state you choose to thank.
Re: Every State In Nigeria Should Be Thankful To The Oil Producing States/community by k2039: 7:30pm On Jun 16, 2013
This is just because Nigeria has chosen to depend solely on oil

Before the emergence of oil in 1956, Nigeria made it money from the agricultural sector, export of Rubber, cocoa and the likes. But the discovery of oil has done more harm than good for our nation.

Mono economy is bad for our nation, worst still there is concentration of corruption in that sector, so it's not like the wealth is evenly distributed, just some bunch of goats looting it.

why be thankful for a CURSE.
can't wait till oil runs out. then maybe we will act more seriously and responsibly about our economy.

There is this brain disorder many Nigerians are suffering from that needs to be tamed. The oil or any mineral resources found anywhere in Nigeria belongs to Nigeria and not the particular family, community or State. Until the constitution is amended giving the right to natural resources to either immediate family, community or State then the status quo remains.

When autonomy is finally granted to States, then the offshore resources becomes completely a Federal Government affair as it is on nobody's land. We should rather fight for fiscal federalism than to ignorantly make assertions not recognized in our constitution.

I'm from an oil producing community in Imo State but just like most Imolites I'm enlightened enough to know that with our present constitution, the oil belongs to Nigeria. You people should join us in demanding for true federalism where States will source for their running funds and land use act amended to favour the families and communities.

The oil producing communities are downriver on the Niger. The carbon deposits that produce the oil of the Delta is washed downriver and are sediments and carbon remains of upriver communities. Without the contributions of the upriver people there would not have been buried hydrocarbons in the Delta.

What is buried beneath the Delta is joint ownership and from all communities on the river Niger.

The Oil produving States should be Thankful to the carbon donor States. cool cool

I think we should rather be thankful to God and not any state or community. The oil producing states/communities did nothing to put the oil in there.
That oil is the mainstay of the Nigerian economy is not because the oil producing states want it so,it is because of what the constitution says.says.If the constitution had given the sole ownership of crude oil to oil producing communities and they in turn ,out of goodwill give same to all other states, then I would have said they deserve all commendation. The only reason I empathise with those communities is the fact that our government has not done much for them,so many of them have ni means of livelihood because oil has done harm to their lands and waters.

Nigeria should be richer than how we are now if previous and present governments properly utilise the numerous mineral resources we are blessed with, the over dependence on crude oil is doing more harm to us than good.

Prior to 1957 when oil was first discovered in Oloibiri,Nigeria could not be said to be a poor nation,we were doing very well from proceeds gotten from agriculture.

Stop first! You should indeed be thankfull that the oil producing states peacefully allowed the rest of nigeria to exploit resources and share it based on population for all those years, just imagine if the oil was located in SW or NW, forget it!
This country would have split long ago
Re: Every State In Nigeria Should Be Thankful To The Oil Producing States/community by omongbatim: 10:13pm On Jun 16, 2013
The topic is correct. Without the oil Nigeria would be far worse than it is. For that reason alone, GEJ should be allowed to rule for another term.+ He is not doing bad compared to past rulers.

Nonsense, its the politicians that have stolen all your Oil wealth that should thank you not the common citizens...... Does this Country look or performs like an oil producing Country?? NO!!!......... Thanks to the most expensive Government in the World and some of the most corrupt leader the world has ever seen, That oil has little effect on the Country.....I'm sure most states would fare better if they look inwards than wait for those Cheap ar5e Govt allocations that a lot of non-oil Companies generate far more...... BTW, most of it is located off-shore so technically, its off the coast of Nigeria, not "ON" your lands....... @Ujoinme. How far the pics of Bayelsa State?? With the @OP's mentality, Byelsa is bound to turn into a bunkerer's paradise, piracy, complete with Millitant Warlords fighting for territory.
Re: Every State In Nigeria Should Be Thankful To The Oil Producing States/community by ba7man(m): 5:30am On Jun 17, 2013
The reason why Bayelsa State remains backwards is....Rather than hold their leaders accountable, people like the @OP prefer to walk around with a false sense of accomplishment thinking "Our Oil".
