Mopolchi: Whether selective or not, it is not your concern. Just keep quiet and allow justice to unfold itself.
Fo0l! Should we then forget that he erred by issuing an illegal perpetual injuction restraining EFCC from arresting a man who looted a state treasury, and who was petitioned to the NJC for gross incompetence and flagrant abuse of powers amounting to judicial misconduct and violations of the code of conduct for judicial officers because he hasn't obstructed justice this time around? Not all of us suffer from amnesia! Selective justice is no justice at all!

Before you guys turn this thread to another North Vs. South Vs. East bashing thread, let me make an observation:

A lot of people have been complaining about the "bail amount".
One person even asked whose account that One Billion Naira is going to! grin grin grin

For information sake:
"An accused, when granted Bail, does not have to DEPOSIT THAT CASH (real hard Notes) into any Court or Bank.
What is posted is called a BAIL BOND, issued by the accused Lawyer and/or family members.
Its a promise to produce the accused or the Money or the property used to post the bond (whose value is more than the cash value of Bail), is forfeited.
What it means is that "If the accused FAIL to be produced in court on next or any future hearing" i.e JUMPS BAIL,
The Surety/Guarantor has to COME UP with the said amount and forfeit it to the Government" ... Or forfeits the house (to be sold) whose documents are used as part of the bail conditions.

Note: Only and when the accused "jumps bail" ...is the physical cash now required (or landed property) seized/taken by the government.

So, dont worry about the amount, its just to ensure that the accused is produced in court, next hearing.

Have you ever wondered why "Bail is FREE" in a Police Station?
You only need a Lawyer or a Surety to "stand Bail or Post Bail bond" for you.

Is there no specific fine or bail to be paid in proportion or in multiple of the loot according to the law? Or the judge just pronounce any amount that pleases him? If someone who stole N200 million be asked to pay N1billion bail, shouldn't the pension thief pay something around N100billion? Why was the pension thief who stole N23billion be asked to pay N700,000( around 0.003% of the loot) and Kuforiji asked to pay N1billion(about 400% of the loot)? Even if he has to pay interest on the stolen money,it shouldn't be this much na. This's a record breaking judgement ,but i'll love to see the bigger thieves having it this hard. However, this judge is a PDP card carrying member, no doubt. smiley

There are 2 sides to this judgment. When a court imposes such a ridiculously high bail condition on an accused, it must be that the validity of the allegations is somewhat evident so much that the court is not genuinely willing to let the convict out on bail... Since he has right to bail, the court then offers conditions that he may likely unable to fulfill. In that case he will remain in detention.
On the other hand, if he fulfills this bail condition, it will jeopardize his defense because the plaintiff's lawyer will capitalize on that to nail him completely. "How can a speaker who is originally a mere honorable, whose mandate is only to serve his people afford a bail of N1b if not the proceed of corruption?" It will be unwise for the speaker to pay that bail even if he somehow can afford it, if he is willing to have any chance at all at the final judgment.

A good way to start dealing with these dis-honorable thieving crooks! Next is to initiate the impeachment process!
It was this same Judge(Ibrahim Buba), who issued Peter Odili an order of "Perpetual Injunction" restraining the EFCC from arresting, detaining or prosecuting him! "Selective justice"

Confused judiciary! Pension billions of naira gets convicted with a find of 750k. Here, less than half a billion naira fetches N1b mark! How much will be the monetary punishment if eventually convicted since the bail now is 1b? N20billion! Judiciary rise up and be equitable and merciless on our looters.

mehn this country is fucking rich while its citizen re surfering and feeding from hand to mouth, if a state speaker is being asked to pay 1billion as bail then the federal house of assembly speaker will then have pay 1trillon also as bail. I keep saying we as nigerians re so greedy and there is evil sprits that control those in power. Cudos to that judge i think the judiciary needs to be fully independent.to do grate job like this one.

And then, even if he was selective with regard to the two cases, what is your concern there? Avert baseless emotion from blinding you. Are the two cases the same in terms of objects, circumstances and motives? What happened in the first case he handled will not necessarily repeat in the second. So stop be sentimental here and allow your reasoning work. A and B are alphabetical letters but do not necessarily mean that they will be used interchangeably. Get that rather than raining curses here.

As much as I extol the ACN govt, this is a reprehensible fault capable of marring the party's reputation.
But for a few people here conversant with nigeria politics, especially in a legislative terrain like the LAHA, it is very obvious here that corruption allegations against the speaker is like letting the cat outa the bag perhaps due to an attempt to renege on existing agreement .so no one is absolved of blame. This is a returning speaker for fair analysis sake
BTW, the judge has not done anything special or landmark until he is able to effect rectitude by delivering a fair judgement in the end.

why are some of us so stuborn and difficult to comprehend? THE BAIL MONEY IS NOT SUPPOSED TO BE A PHYSICAL CASH. IT IS IN FORM OF A BOND THAT GUARANTEES THAT THE SURETY WILL PRODUCE THE SUSPECT WHENEVER HE IS REQUIRED.IT IS WHEN THE SUSPECT FAILS TO HONOUR THE COURT BY WAY OF 'JUMPING BAIL' THAT THE PHYSICAL CASH IMPOSED BY THE COURT WILL BE PAID BY THE SURETY.

Selective justice is no justice at all. The man abused his judicial authority in the past what's to stop him from doing same again tightly or wrongly, justice should always be dispelled justly with neither excess nor undervalued.

Thanks for our memory upgrade about the judge and his ALLEGED miscarriage of justice in Odili's case.
Are you suggesting that the speaker not be prosecuted since Odili is free FOR NOW based on your highlighted quote above
What happened to the saying:

Half bread is better than none!

I am sure someone else will SELECT justice for Odili in due course.
Meanwhile let's thank God for small mercies.
