David Jimkuta is the leader, Southern Taraba Youths for Positive Change (STYPC), a politically-inclined group with a mission to promote peace and good governance in Taraba State. The group also engages the state government on the need to be focused and responsible to the people. Jimkuta, a former member of the PDP, contested for a seat at the state House of Assembly to represent Takum II Constituency on the platform of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) in 2011. In this interview with NNAH DOUGLAS, he charged the state lawmakers to declare the governor incapacitated and confirm the Acting Governor, Garba Umar (UTC).

Report reaching us has it that Governor Danbaba Suntai has been discharged from the hospital, according to some delegates who visited him recently and the report also has it that he was set to come back to Nigeria, indicating that he is hale and hearty. As a stakeholder in the politics of the state, how do you see the development?

Unfortunately, the circumstance surrounding the health of the governor as it is, is not clear because a lot of elements in the state are playing politics with the health of the governor. No doubt, Danbaba Suntai is our governor and as a result of the air disaster he was involved in eight months ago, he had been out of the country receiving treatment. But the fact still remains that the governor cannot continue to take us backward. He should be declared incapacitated and resign in order for him to receive adequate care and for the state to progress. The accident was actually caused by negligence on the part of the governor; even a local government chairman has aides to assist him in carrying out some functions effectively, he shouldn’t have piloted himself in the first place.
