Keshi Should Be Celebrated Not Condemned - Amaju Pinnick by femzybiz(m): 4:10pm On Jun 27, 2013
Delta State Sports Commission’s chairman, Amaju Pinnick, has leapt to the defence of Super Eagles coach,Stephen Keshi, adding that the criticisms leveled against him, following Nigeria’s elimination from the FIFA Confederations Cup,are uncalled for.

Amaju said that,he himself initially had doubts over the capabilities of Keshi, but he has come to believe in his project with the Super Eagles.

Yesterday, veteran Sports promoter,Martins Osaile launched a stinging attack on Keshi, saying that he has lost touch and can no longer offer much to the Super Eagles.

Reacting to what Osaile said,Amaju said that there should be continuity in order to allow the team the opportunity to become formidable.

“It is fundamentally wrong to assume that Keshi has reached his limit. Keshi should not be condemned but celebrated,” Amaju told Vanguard Sports.

“He has been on duty for only two years and within this period we won the Nations Cup, something we were doing under an indigenous coach for the first time. Everybody is celebrating Alex Ferguson for the feat he achieved with Manchester United.”

“But how many years did he work before he won his first trophy? Martin Osaile wants Osaze back to the Eagles. I don’t have anything against that. But we won the Nations Cup without Osaze.”

“We all know that Osaze has a history of clashes with coaches. He had problems with Amodu, Lagerback, Siasia and now Keshi. Indiscipline or impunity is not a synonym for heroism. Has Osaze changed? Does he respect the coach?

“Even in Europe he quarrels with his managers. What will become of the Eagles if he returns to the team without changing? Keshi should stand tall for the decisions he has been taking.”

“Osaile might have some points but he should have channeled them to Keshi and not to attack him publicly. I did not believe in Keshi before the Nations Cup. And I told him when we met. But he had a superior argument over the points I raised and he later proved me wrong.”

“During the Nations Cup, we saw the Eagles play with rhythm for the first time in a very long time. There was link from the defence to midfield and from there to attack. I think that we should celebrate Keshi. On the issue of marketing players which Osaile alleged, my question is which coach does not sell players?”

Everybody is a technical adviser in Nigeria. But simple community football coaching, they cannot do. All they do is stay in front of TV and cast aspersions.

Abeg, what is Keshi's crime now?

He won the Nation's cup. We are on the vergw of qualifying for the World Cup. The team is gradually becoming worldclass. Football pundits around the world are praising the team. Players like Mikel are displaying a rare patriotic behaviour of playing in the Eagles with pride.

This team is the best since the 94 squad.

Bear in mind that we have had some useless coaches along the way. Mercenaries like Vogts and Lagerback who came to suck us dry but offered nothing in return.

Yet a Nigerian like you comes around and start playing positive football, yet you hate on him.

We talk about the strike force being wasteful. Okay! Is it not we, the fake nl football experts, that told Keshi to invite these players? All over the web, we asked him to invite Ujah and Akpala because they play in Germany and praised him for showcasing the home based players in Mbah and Oboabana. Now that Gambo messed up, we are not saying that home based players are not good enough. Nigerians!

Everybody is clamouring for Eneramo, Imoh, Haruna etc now. If they play their first games and mess up, we will start abusing Keshi again.

What do we really want?

Let's be patient with this guy. He has a plan. His team plays with a pattern. He knows what he is doing.

Give him a chance!

Coach Keshi has been a genius so far. I wonder why he is being criticized for fixing a mess created by past leaders of Nigerian football. He selected the team that won the nations cup. He put Omeruo in the central defence and the boy shone like a million stars. Looking like a world class defender. Omeruo marked out Drogba. Think of it.

He changed Mikel's role for the first time in his professional career. Got him looking world class again. Keshi is not scared to drop high profile players if they misbehave. Got our team playing possessive and attacking football. I don't think Keshi has a problem with Osaze but he is past his prime. We need our young strikers learning their craft at the highest grounds. That is what he did at the confeds. If Keshi trust the strikers, we should trust him because he has brought us this far.

Even the best coach in the world get criticism.
Keshi is still the greatest achiever among the local coaches. He still deserve his respect, at least for now.

haters go to hell. You can only condemn him when you're a successful coach like del bosque, fergie, etc. Not just sitting behind your keyboard and typing thrash!

If he sees potential in them. Let him train them to his taste. Let us trust Keshi. He has progressed the Green Chickens (there was nothing super about those chickens) to SUPER EAGLES in two years. Sometimes stars are made.
