How To Compress Image Files Using Microsoft Office Picture Manager by Appswheel(m): 10:27pm On Jun 30, 2013
When applying for specific jobs, either by email or filling an online form, prospective employers set some requirement as regards to passport size, document size (WAEC, BSc, NYSC and other Certificates in JPEG format). Here is how to compress these documents to the required size.

1. Locate the image file you want to compress
2. Right click on it, point to OPEN WITH, locate Microsoft Office Picture Manager. (Now image in displayed in Microsoft Office Picture Manager Window)
3. On the Formatting bar, Click on Edit Pictures
Once you click on Edit Picture, a task pane is displayed on the right side of the screen.
4. Click on compress picture
The task pane display gives you an option to compress image for, document, webpage and Email.
5. Choose your desired option, then Click Ok. Now your document has been compressed.
If you want to keep the original image properties, save the compressed image a separate document. Click on File --- Click on Save As (Name the file), then Click on Save.

Alternatively, if you want to resize image to a specific dimension.
1. Repeat Procedures 1 – 3 above.
2. Click on resize picture
A task pane is displayed which give you an option to specify custom width and height
3. Specify desired width and height
4. Click Ok.

How to Crop Unnecessary Items from Photos
Two reasons to crop photos before using them
• reduces the file size
• keeps only the part of the picture that is the main focus

Steps
1. open the photo you wish to crop in Microsoft Office Picture Manager.
2. Click on Edit picture on the Formatting bar. a task pane is displayed on the right side of the screen.
3. Choose Crop from the menu.
4. In the Crop window, resize handles appear on each corner and in the middle of each side of your picture. Drag any of these resize handles to select the focal point of your picture.
5. When you are happy with the result, click the OK button.

NB: This tutorial is prepared using Microsoft office Picture Manager 2010. Other versions should follow similar (same) procedure.
