These points are from Amin Ahsan Islahi's 'Taddabbur-e-Qur'an'(pondering over the Quran).

It is a great tafsir if you can get it.

I think only Volume one has been translated to English though (Surah Fatiha and baqarah).

For those who intend to study the Quran this ramadhan, This is the advice:

1. Sincerity of Purpose: The person should approach the Quran for guidance not for profit or to show off.

2. Accepting the Quran as a sublime book : Without an appreciation of the importance and nobility of the Quran, a student cannot be motivated to put in the effort necessary for its in depth understanding and appreciation of its subtleties and wisdom.

3. Readiness to change and embrace the Quranic guidance: Injunctions in the Quran might go against your personal likes, dislikes and desires.A sincere, resolute person would try and conform to the Quranic teachings to the best of his or her ability.

4 . Pondering over the Quran: Pondering over the Quranic is needed to understand and gain insight into its wisdom.

5. Supplication to Allah for guidance and help: When faced with difficulties in the course of study, Do not be discouraged, lose heart or think negatively and raise objections. Pray for help and guidance.
