With a Project that has nothing to do with him? With all due respect, would you be speaking like this if GEJ had real achievement that makes him a proven achiever beyond reproach?

Even the article lies with the assertion the project was "named after" GEJ when the PPP arrangement between the Nigerian Police force and Remax realtors was inaugurated in 2008. We did this to death the other day to establish conclusively that GEJ has nothing to do with this:

What's this one saying? Houses that are not more than 100 units and each 3-bed room flat will be sold for 8m naira each.

Now, tell me how many of the police officer can afford this? How much will he pay monthly and for how many years?

Is GEJ expecting them to still be sending monthly loan repayment from heaven even after they are dead? I am saying this because there is no way a policeman that earns 50k per month will fish repaying that money in his life time.

Lets do some calculation...

The loan rule says you can't use more than 30-33% of your salary for loan repayment - let even assume the officer doesn't have any other loan running.

30% of 50k = 15k.

number of months to pay = 8000000/15000 = 534 months

= 44 years

Many of them are already between 40 and 50 years of age.

Gbawe the LIAR is here again. The project has nothing to do with GEJ, yet he's commissioning the project? Yet the estate is called GOODLUCK JONATHAN Housing Estate? How does that make sense to you?

The project was executed thru Public-Private-Participation. The first P (Public) is represented by the Police, under the control of the president (GEJ). Depending on the arrangement for the PPP, the first and second P, CONTRIBUTED something to the project. The Police may have contributed land or whatever while the Private company may contributed funds, etc. The ministry of housing and urban development also contributed something. All parties contributed something to gain something and to make the project a reality.

Yes, the project was conceptualised in 2008 but work commenced in 2011 when GEJ was president and the project was completed in 2013 when GEJ is still president. Kudos to the police and GEJ for seeing the project through.

The problem in Nigeria public sector is not ideas, plans or initiative. If you'r made a minister or commissioner today, you'll automatically inherit tonnes of plans, proposals and ideas. The PROBLEM in the Nigeria public sector has always been IMPLEMENTATION, DELIVERY and GETTING THE JOB DONE.

GEJ has DONE IT AGAIN. The JOB IS DONE. GEJ will do it again and again. Haters can go and die.

And who is arguing with you on this thread that GEJ has something to do with the project or did you miss the part in the original post where it was clearly stated that he only commissioned the first modern police housing estate named after him in Lagos ?

The Nigeria Police cannot act in isolation, and the link you provided emphasized that the project was between a private realtor and the Nigeria Police, a federal government institution.

If you've slowed down a bit and research further on some of the President utterances recently, you'll have come across where Jonathan restated the determination of his government to transform the country by providing enabling environment for private investment and went further to say story about commissioning is what Nigerians want to hear and not bomb explosion.

Are you not happy to hear the story about commissioning or what sort of chronic bad-belleism is this

These haters have no shame. When govt go around hunting for private sector investments, they are ridiculed on this forum. When the private investments materializes, they'll turn 360 degrees to tell you it has nothing to do with govt. But when private companies folds up, the turn around to blame govt. What sort of people are these haters?

** Jonathan commissions 200-unit police housing estate in Lagos

* To be sold at N8million to Police Officers.

President Goodluck Jonathan on Friday commissioned a multi-million naira police housing estate in Idimu, Alimisho Local Government Area of Lagos State.

The estate, named “Goodluck Ebele Jonathan Police Housing Estate,” comprises 200 units of 3-bedroom flats. The estate was built under a Public-Private Partnership, PPP, scheme being financed by Aso Housing and Loans and developed by Remax developers.

Speaking during the commissioning ceremony, the president said this was the FIRST TIME in Nigeria’s history that the Nigerian Police would achieve such a laudable venture. He also emphasised that the federal government is committed to improving the standard of living of all police officers in the country, irrespective of their rank or status.

He said the PPP initiative was the only way the government could achieve many of its goals in providing the much needed infrastructural amenities.

The President commended the leadership of the Nigerian Police for “taking the initiative to develop an estate for its members. Not only is this commendable, it is remarkable because it goes a long way in complementing the efforts of the Federal Government in providing low cost housing for the citizenry.”

“This government places huge emphasis on housing, because the housing sector has the potential of increasing the productivity of every person. A viable housing sector creates jobs and enhances employment opportunities,” the president said.

He also noted that one of the ways in which government was aiming at improving the standard of living of police officers in the country was embarking on massive transformation of all barracks in the country.

“This will cost the government a lot of money to achieve, but at the end it will be worth it,” he said.

Mr. Jonathan thanked the police boss and his management team for naming the estate after him, but however noted that it would have been better for him to be receiving such honours after leaving office.

Earlier in his remarks, the Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar, disclosed that the housing units, which would be made available for different cadres of police officers was completed over a period of eight months.

Though he did not disclose the cost of building the estate, he declared that each flat would be given out to interested police officers at N8 million adding that each buyer would be expected to repay through a mortgage schememade available by the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria (FMBN).

He pointed out that similar estates were currently being built in other parts of the country including Abuja, Kaduna and Kano.

Admitting that lack of housing is one of the challenges faced by police officers and their families all over the country, Mr. Abubakar urged the FG to help construct more barracks across the country and help rehabilitate the existing ones.

“It is only with the aggression of the Federal Government that acute housing shortage of the police can be tackled,” he stated.

Also speaking, Minister of Police Affairs, Caleb Olubolade, commended the efforts of the President and IGP, adding that men and officers of the force will continue to be loyal to the administration of President Jonathan

Exactly what I expected from. The NTA I watched by 9pm says the project was executed under a PPP with the police providing the land. Isnt that enough to commend GEJ under whose watch this first of its kind partnership was forged?

Even from the Premium Times report above, the Inspector General Of Police said the Goodluck Jonathan Estate was completed in 8months. Which means that work began under the current Inspector General Of Police. He also said similar projects are taking place in Abuja, Kaduna and Kano. And the houses are built not just for the police but a certain percentage is given out to the general public.

If upstill today, the government we elected can't provide cheap and affordable housing estate for the majority of the citizens, but they themselve, live in expensive and costly mansions, then I think that is the height of insensitivity!

Those of you whether it is GEJ's project or Federal Government project,it doesn't really matter. What matter is the affordability of the house to everyone of the beneficiaries(who in this case, are the police force). We all know the salaries the police are being paid isn't enough to feed them and their family for a month not to talk of meeting other obligations. The housing estates should be cheap and affordable!.......that's all!
