miqos02: Halfway into the tenure of the Senate, 34 senators have not sponsored any bill since coming to office, according to official records released by the Senate.

The Senate's Mid-Term Assessment Report shows that of the total 109 senators, 74 have sponsored at least a bill during the period starting June 2011 while the rest initiated none. Senate President David Mark sponsored no bill but, by convention, he is not expected to table any bill in his capacity as presiding officer of the Senate.

A Daily Trust analysis of the assessment report issued last month reveals that senators who did not sponsor any bill constitute about one-third of the upper chamber.

This is coming amidst public debate on the emoluments of Nigerian federal lawmakers, who a recent report by the Economist ranked top in a global chart of Economist ranked top in a global chart of legislators' salaries.

Revenue Mobilisation, Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC) records in possession of Daily Trust show that each senator is entitled to N35 million in yearly salaries and allowances.

Based on this alone, the 34 senators would have collectively received more than N1 billion in wages, apart from other hefty allowances received in quarterly instalments.

i think Nigerians should protext over this issue of the senetors not passing any bill, there is no need for them to earn 35million with doing anything.

Market Nigeriana !, we are overating these senators..most of them didn't go to school, they are there with forged certificates aka 'Toronto' their level of reasoning is very shallow..most of them even sleep during session, they are made up of past military officers, governors and fortunate crooks....sometines i wonder what they learnt during their visits to houses of parliaments of other countries ......if you are in support say hi!,and against say nay!....

ablyguy: I thought senators' work is to come and seat in the chamber, maybe make few noises and head back home. Why the complain fa? Submitting bills is just bonus work...

That's true! Afterall, they are paid just for sitting not for bill submission!
Re: 34 Senators Tabled No Bills In Two Years by donclif: 4:18pm On Aug 01, 2013
The so called senate president himself that has seriously formed the habbit of using his legislative power in sitting on the meaningful and profitable bills that were passed has not been able to pass not even one,who says he can't pass a bill I mean for God sake he is also a senator rep a constituency prior to the fact that he is presiding over the house, infact they are all glorified seat warmers and should be served a letter of redundance old foolz....

I am not suprised, my anger goes more to the so called ACN goons, look at what is happening in lagos and rivers states, they generate reasonable amount of electricity to service their states but a s! lly law is preventing independent power generation.

what has the ACN senators in both rivers and lagos done to repeal the obnoxious law?

look at the oil dispute in Anambra and kogi states yet Ngige with his 3 inch length is sleeping warming up to become Anambra's next messiah.

Allah! these hooligans are really using our heads.
