STILL ON TECHNICAL WRITING

Technical Writing is different from other forms of writing in many ways. In Technical Writing:

- The information is organised, presented and communicated in a particular prescribed format.

- The writing is clear, concise, accurate and usually action-oriented.

- The writing reflects the audience’s needs, biases/preconceptions and prior understanding.

- The writing presents information to help readers solve a problem or gain a better understanding of a situation.

- The writing conveys technical, complex, or specialised information in a way that is easy for a layman to understand.

Technical Writing could be descriptive, creative, and expository. However, the standards are higher than those of other writing forms. Technical Writing has no allowance for errors – it requires 100% accuracy.
