"Bale deserves all the attention coming his way. There is no doubt he is incredibly talented and has huge potential. However, he isn’t proven on a bigger stage. Some might point out that Ronaldo commanded a similar transfer free from Manchester United at the same age, but Ronaldo was the best player in the world at the time and had won the Champions league the year before. The same cannot be said of Bale who still needs to prove himself at club level and even internationally, a hard feat as he plays for the weak Welsh team.

Bale’s exploits last season are regarded as a fluke by many. Real Madrid clearly believe otherwse and think it was the first of many successful seasons for one of the best players in the English League. And with rivals Barcelona beating them to the signing of Neymar, Madrid are under pressure to respond with a marquee signing of their own."
