However, these young men; Adesanya, 20, Sulaiman Adebesin, 20, Saburi Seteolu 18, Raheem Bello 19, Azeez Alabi 20, and Kola Sodeinde, 19 never knew the destruction would come this soon.

This is the story of a group of six young men who were set ablaze by one Mukaila Adebesin for allegedly gambling and smoking Indian hemp in his compound.

Adebesin, who is currently a guest at the Oke-Itoku Police Station allegedly committed the crime in Ita Balogun, Ago-Oko, a suburb of Ogun state.

According to an eyewitness who would not want his name mentioned, Adebesin, a commercial motorist, had just returned from an outing when he saw the six boys in his compound smoking, gambling and shouting at the top of their voices.

He said, “Their activities made the driver engage them in an argument. As the talks became heated, Adebesin reached for a can of petrol, which he emptied on them.

“The victims attempted to flee when it dawned on them that the liquid poured on them was petrol.

“But the fire from a stick of the Indian hemp being smoked by one of them caught fire. They all suffered high degree burns due to the incident.”

Adebesin reported himself to the police immediately after the incident.

It was gathered that when other youth in the area heard about the incident, they stormed Adebesin’s compound, vandalized his apartment and injured his wife who is currently bedridden at an undisclosed hospital in Abeokuta, the state capital.

Confirming the incident, the state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Muyiwa Adejobi, said that the police had commenced investigations into the matter.

Adejobi said, “Adebesin might be charged to court after the conclusion of investigations. He said four of the youth had been admitted at the General Hospital, Ijaiye, while two others were taken to a private clinic for treatment.

“Information available to us is that the suspect had an argument with the youth before he poured PMS on them. For now, we cannot ascertain other circumstances that led to the incident but we have the suspect in our custody.”

The police image maker added that the state’s Commissioner of Police, Mr. Ikemefuna Okoye, had cautioned the youth against any reprisal attack, stressing that the police would not welcome such act.
