Amaechi Gives Terms For Quitting As Govs’ Forum Chairman by ccwizard: 9:18am On Aug 15, 2013
• Denies bid for vice presidency
TO douse the controversy over the chairmanship of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF), Rivers State helmsman, Chibuike Amaechi, has offered to resign.
But this is with a condition: If the 19 governors who voted for him asked him to quit.
Amaechi like Plateau State Governor Jonah Jang is claiming to have won the election for the chairmanship of the NGF.
The position of Amaechi was disclosed yesterday by his Commissioner for Information and Communications, Mrs. Ibim Semenitari.
According to the governor, those who are accusing him of nursing a vice presidential ambition are mischievous since there has not been any formal declaration by him in that regard.
Semenitari told journalists in Port Harcourt Wednesday that Nigerians were aware of the democratic process in which Amaechi emerged as the chairman of the NGF and that the governor is someone who does not treat a democratic process with levity.
According to her, Amaechi remains the authentic chairman of the NGF, but if his colleagues, especially those who voted for him insist that he should step down in a bid to pave the way for peace in the forum, he will step down.
“If all the governors decide, especially those who voted for Governor Amaechi, that he should step down, naturally, he will concede to his colleagues,” she said.
On the issue of reconciliation between President Goodluck Jonathan and the governor, the commissioner stated that there had been meaningful discussion between both leaders.
She denied an allegation that Amaechi was planning to leave the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) because of his difficulties within it. According to her, irrespective of the governor’s suspension which is now before a court, he remains a bonafide member of the PDP.
To Semenitari, the speculation that the governor is nursing a vice presidential ambition is the work of mischief-makers who are bent on creating disaffection between him and the Presidency. She said that the governor had never told anyone that he would be vying for vice presidency in 2015.
Meanwhile, Deputy Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Leyii Kwanee, has urged youths to support Amaechi in what he described as a critical moment of his political career.
He advised the leadership of PDP at the national level to disregard those who were feeding it with the wrong information that they could do without the governor.
According to him, the option left for PDP if they are interested in Rivers State is to intervene and have an amicable solution because the people that are deceiving them are mere paper tigers in the state’s politics.
He said that the House leader, Chidi Lloyd, was psychologically tortured while in police detention. He disclosed that Lloyd’s doctors were working to stabilise him, after which the necessary arrangements would be made to fly him abroad for proper medical attention.
“Honourable Chidi Lloyd was in a very bad state of health and there is the plan to fly him out of the country. Currently, the leader’s health is still unstable, that is why we have not been able to do anything as it relates to taking him overseas. The leader was not just physically tormented, he was also psychologically tormented. So, he is not in a stable state. We do hope that the physicians that are currently handling him will be able to stabilise him,” he said.
He added: “As soon as that is done, like I said before now, we intend to approach the same judge that has granted him bail to look at the issue of his international passport which he was ordered to deposit with the court and there is likely going to be a waiver because we need to get him out of this country so that he can be properly taken care of medically,” Kwanee said

Dear governor

................... Good morning sir.
I say good morning to you even when it's after noon, because your own day is just breaking. To be sincere, your administration proved that young people can perform administratively. How the success got to your head to the extent of insulting the president, I don't know. Did you Still remember how you tongue washed him at Vanguard newspaper award ceremony? Can you tolerate that from LGA chairman? As you're the leader of PDP in rivers state, so the president to the Nation. You know how you manhandled those who disobeyed your orders, how you expect to be pampered by the president for disobeying him by contesting NGF CHAIRMANSHIP, I don't know. Bible said, obedience is better than sacrifice, but you prefer to disobey now your sacrifice resign. See, when war is declared, two things are involved, either you kill or you're killed. Like a broken glass, the trust Jonathan have for you can never be amended, and those who urged you to fight him are now making peace with him. Your denial of not having a Presidential ambition is like crying after the head is off. Put on your thinking cap and........
THINK.

Demdem:

Oh Pleeeas.... We all know that house is an appendage of Amaechi led executive arm of Govt. Was it not that house that approved Billions for amaechi to spend, without it being questioned, was it not that house that approved a 50 million dollar jet for amechi without it being registered with the name of Rivers state Govt? was it not that same house that approved houses for amaechi in PH and Abuja with vehicles to be changed every year as his retirement benefit? apart from budget, that house have not passed any law that directly affects the common man in Rivers State. That house will not suspend any LGA chairman without Amaechi's approval. How come no one is challenging the Speaker on the issue of LGA chairmen.

Only people suffering from self imposed ignorance will maintain that The house and not Amaechi sanctioned the Chairmen.

If Amaechi wants peace let him bury his ego and resign as the NGF chairman.Nigerians will sympathize with him.it is difficult to grandstand when you are in this boat.IF there is no selfish ambition Amaechi please go,and I want to say that the Governor,s forum is becoming a parallel government which is dangerous in a democratic culture such as ours.People are using the Governor,s Forum to launch their personal political agendas instead of the collective will of the people.Let it be scrapped.

So far, Amaechi has shown that he's not a push-over or a footmat.

In real life, it's not so easy to be bold and principled especially in a society where many people sheepishly pander to the interest of 'Any Government in Power'.

I say it again, watch this man.

on a national matter as sensitive as this, Amaechi should either speak for himself or keep silent.

Why are most of you deceiving yourselves?the only NGF that is relevant and can achieve anything with and from the FG(which by the way has been the ONLY reason for the existence of that forum) is the Jonah Jang group.
By all means let Amaechi remain the chairman of the APC governors forum,I'll see how effective that body will be as far as influencing the presidency and having their way with Mr President is concerned.

Foolish, foolish, foolish (in the voice of Abami Eda)

This guy should have been in one dingy EFCC cell by now explaining how he went about buying a 50 million dollar jet when folks live like rats in PH. But GEJ will never be decisive untill they rip off his skull from his neck.. Pretty unfortunate how we support this corrupt egomanaic. He is the main reason the sovereign wealth fund is running with k legs today. He and his gang of looters insisted that Jonathan share the billions that were left in the excess crude account instead of opening the SWF with that. Their argeument? They needed that to biuld roads, bridges bla bla bla... With threats of going to court, Jonathan was forced to share that and what happened? Private jets and Dubai beach front homes for governors and their henchmen. How did that action favour the common man? Take a look at Singarpore, Malaysia, China and all the Asian tigers and see how the utilized the SWF to kickstart their investment drives abroad. With the kind of skilled hands managing the Nigerian SWF and her meager 3 billion dollars today, is it not obvious that AmAechi and his gang were/are only interested in siphoning funds for only themselsves? So why are people still castigating GEJ for wranckling Amechis chain? Amechi has been in government since 1999 and has presided over budgets bigger than that of some west African states for years and we just have some poorly done roads and some shoddy schools to show for it. He is nothing but a mafia attack dog fighting for the cabal that contrived to impose him on Rivers people using one of the most absurd court rullings in Nigerias history. That is what this is all about. An intra elite war at the detriment of the common man. This guy should be thrown into a lions den. Thats where he rightly belongs.
