Punish Patience, APC Tells INEC by Donmams(m): 9:42pm On Aug 19, 2013
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to quickly sanction those violating its order on the ban on campaigns for the 2015 general elections.
Specifically, the APC has called on the INEC to sanction the First Lady, Dame Patience Jonathan, if it wanted its order on the campaign ban to be taken seriously.
The party was speaking in view of the peace rally organised by Mrs Jonathan on Thursday in Abuja which paralysed activities in the city for about four hours, describing the rally as a subtle electioneering campaign for the president ahead of the general elections.
The APC, in a statement issued by its interim National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, also urged the Presidency to tell Nigerians why it defied INEC rules by continuing to campaign for the 2015 elections.
The statement said: “While one of the PDP gong-bearers, Okupe, was telling Nigerians that President Jonathan has not informed anyone that he will contestin 2015, his wife was coercing hundreds of hapless women, including those in uniform, into a show of shame tagged a ‘Peace Rally’, but in essence a campaign for President Jonathan ahead of 2015.
“Defying INEC, this brazen campaign featured women clad in specially-made ‘ankara’ that bore the picture of President Jonathan and reminds one of the disgraceful days of the late despot Mobutu Sese Seko of former Zaire, and the late clownish leader of Uganda, Idi Amin. What a company to keep in the 21st century!
‘”In what must ranked as the first of its kind in Nigeria, women drawn from various security agencies – the same that will be expected to provide securityfor the 2015 elections – were coerced into a march of shame, as organisers of the campaign masquerading as a peace rally blocked traffic and prevented citizens from earning their daily bread.
“Yet, Okupe said his boss has not told anyone he will run, and had the temerityto insult the media by saying they have been taken over by a few people. The good news is that Nigerians are far smarter than their present rulers and therefore cannot be fooled.”
The statement said that the APC was on a rescue mission to save Nigeria from the clutches of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and a mediocre presidency, both of which, it claimed, have failed thecitizenry and dimmed their hopes.
The APC further said that its cardinal programmes, intended to rescue the long-suffering citizens and the nation were premised on “war against corruption, food security, accelerated power supply, integrated transport network, free education, devolution of power, accelerated economic growth and affordable health care.”

Jittery over a "mere appendage of power"... This is indeed laughable. I'd rather have INEC put an outright ban on any type of rally be it peaceful or unpeaceful!
