At least eight members of staff of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Abia State have been confirmed dead and 10 others wounded in a fatal road accident that occurred in Enugu state Tuesday night.

The corpses of the eight dead persons were deposited at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) Umuahia and the 10 others who were injured are receiving treatment at FMC, and University Nigeria Teaching Hospital (UNTH) Enugu.

The PDP staff were returning from Awka, Anambra state where they had worked as auxiliary staff ward congresses in preparation for the governorship election due later in the year.

The 18- seater bus was said to have skidded off the road and plunged into a ditch on its own, resulting in the death five of the passengers on the spot and three others later.

The 63 year old Driver of the ill – fated bus, Mr Sunday Iroegbu who sustained minor injuries said he was trailing behind the convoy and was not able see clearly as it was raining when the vehicle skidded off the road and into a ditch.

How can he not see clearly even if it was raining. Does he not have wipers on the bus or headlights if it was foggy. Our drivers are so incompetent. There is no regulated driver learning method. Anyone can just get up and buy a licence and 10yeara down the line when faced with a very unfamiliar terrain, become confused as to how to handle it due to improper driving skills. The dangerous roads doesn't help. All this and more add to a very deadly recipe. May their souls find peace in The Lord sha. My condolences to their families x
