One of our readers, Ifeanyi Abraham sent us a post about the topic. What do you think about his comments?

“….for though the righteous fall seven times, they rise again, but the wicked stumble when calamity strikes. But what makes (Prov 24:14) NIV version”

I am writing with regards to the headline “MY AFFAIR WITH PASTOR BIODUN FATOYINBO OF COZA”, posted here on Ese Walter’s blog and trending everywhere in Nigeria today.

While I will not make any comments about how true the story is, or condemn any of the people mention in the post, I simply write this brief post to address an issue which although we may choose to deny, is really eating at the heart of Christianity in Nigeria and the world.

We are quick to deny it, quick to hide it, quick to condemn it, but the truth is that there is; Immorality in the church today, whether amongst our youth o amongst the elders

It has been happening since bible times, and it is very important for present day Christian elders to confront this by following the lead of Paul.

In the book of 1st Corinthians 5, Apostle Paul in clear terms tackles the issue of porneia(a broader definition of sexual immorality)

“5 It is reported commonly that there is fornication among you, and such fornication as is not so much as named among the Gentiles, that one should have his father’s wife”

In Corinthians it was a case of a man having a sexual relationship with his stepmother, and Paul addressed the attitude of the Christian leaders in the church in Corinth, in Verse 2;

“..And you are puffed up, and have not rather mourned, that he who has done this deed might be taken away from among you”

You notice here that the church leaders had a very casual reaction to the whole episode, and Paul as a Christian Leader and Father of the church in Corinth immediately issues judgment(what should be done) in the situation. Sometimes the excuse that Christian leaders give is as a result of Jesus’s statement in Matthew 7:1-5 “After all, “judge not, let you be judged!”, but the problem here is that they do not understand that Jesus was talking about “hypocritical judgment, and judging others by a standard that we ourselves do not want to be judged by”, you must be able to use a standard of judgment that you can apply to yourself and family.

Paul was very clear in that scripture and gives Christian leaders a route that they can follow.

First he said “Deliver him unto Satan”; Verse 4 and 5 of that scripture;

“4 In the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, when ye are gathered together, and my spirit, with the power of our Lord Jesus Christ,

5 To deliver such an one unto Satan for the destruction of the flesh, that the spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus”

What does this mean? A lot of times the scandal and defense that immediately follows this immoral acts often provide some form of social comfort/spiritual protection” of the people in question, so Paul’s command provides an avenue for the church to help this man face his sin for his sake and their sake, even when he tries to hide from it

Putting this man outside social and spiritual protection will help the destruction of his rebellious flesh, not the body,

In the last line of verse 5 he justifies it by saying “that the spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus” which shows us that the ultimate purpose is to ensure that this man does not continue in this sin but rises up again.

The church today has to take a stand on some very important issues, as my Pastor; Pastor Bowale Abrahams will say “We are called to Win the World At All Cost”, if we are truly going to do this act given to us by God we need to move immediately to ensure that we are not found guilty of the things that we preach about.

As many that are led by the spirit of God, they are the sons of God and the devil is constantly fighting to lead many men astray by taking out the ones that God has called into the work of the kingdom

I end this post with a message to pastors and their congregational members

The bible says in Ps 23: The lord is my shepherd, I shall not want, he maketh me lie down in green pastures…….”

Your Pastor is a shepherd to you here on earth; a good shepherd will not eat his sheep which is what every Pastor that has sexual immorality with anyone is doing. If your pastor makes advances towards you, flee! It is not of God! You have the power right there, don’t be deceived or afraid. If it isn’t in the bible, don’t do it!

Let us follow the lead of Jesus the good shepherd and to everyone that is going to comment on that post, before you cast the first stone; “You must be able to use a standard of judgment that you can apply to yourself and family”.
