I sincerely doubt the sincerity of the US government in this Saga. Why condemn the Good with the Evil if you can't profer better options or solutions to the problem at hand. My take is that, they "US" are silently praying that all this continues and deteriorates to a state where the Country will be thrown into a state of confusion so that they will come in at that point, not to restore Law and order for the interest of the people but for their own selfish interests and gains.
