PDP Governors Snub Tuesday "Peace Parley " With President Jonathan by Clerverly: 10:55pm On Sep 03, 2013
Governors of Peoples Democratic party (PDP) who were earlier scheduled to meet President Goodluck Jonatha today refused to honor the meeting asking for more time.

One of the governors told Saharareporters that they sent word to the President that they have important state matters to attend in their respective states for at least one week.

President Jonathan had to postpone the meeting till next Tuesday in deference to the governors.

Last Saturday several of the governor stormed out of the venue of the party's convention to declare a splinter faction. Their action reportedly troubled President Jonathan, who immediately called an emergency meeting of state governors of his party; however, some of the governors left Abuja to avoid meeting with the president. The rapid depletion of the ranks of the governors left Mr. Jonathan with only 16 governors; the absence of the key governors forced the president to postpone the meeting by two hours but several of the governors refused to commit to the meeting forcing the presidency to postpone the meeting for another week.

The chairman of the Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Tony Anenih confirmed the postponed, in a chat with reporters Anenih said the peace talks, scheduled to continue Tuesday in Abuja, were postponed at the request of the aggrieved governors of the party who stormed out of the venue of the party’s special national convention on Saturday.

Anenih said that the peace talks with the aggrieved governors would now continue Tuesday, next week, after selected party leaders would have met with former President Olusegun Obasanjo on Friday as part of wider consultations demanded by parties to the crisis.

He disclosed that the aggrieved governors told the Presidency, and the PDP leadership that they needed more time to make larger consultations, just as he said the Presidency and the PDP leadership were not opposed to wider consultations.
He explained that the Presidency and PDP leadership was taking advantage of the postponement to also consult widely on how to amicably resolve the crisis.
According to him, “Part of the wider consultations is the meeting of selected party leaders with Chief Olusegun Obasanjo on Friday morning and thereafter; we will meet with the governors on Tuesday, next week.”
The BoT chair, who read out the resolution of the marathon meeting that held in the Presidential Villa from Sunday night till the early hours of Monday, expressed optimism that the problems would be resolved and the aggrieved governors who broke away from the convention venue to announce a faction of the party, would come back.
“I believe some of them have genuine grievances; but I have hope that, once the grievances are addressed, they will come back. I am happy that the PDP has an internal mechanism for effective conflict resolution, and at the end of the day, the problems will be addressed and the PDP will come out of the crisis stronger,” Anenih stated.
At the end of the marathon meeting, which ended about 2.05 am on Monday, Anenih had read a short resolution of the meeting to the hearing of the PDP governors, including four of the aggrieved governors, who attended the meeting to set the stage for the continuation of peace talks, which were scheduled for yesterday.
The outcome of the meeting: “The resolution of Mr. President, the leadership of the party and the PDP Governors meeting today the 1st of September, 2013, to discuss the incident that occurred during the PDP special convention of 31st August, 2013, whereby some State delegations broke out of the convention ground to announce a faction of the PDP. The meeting was encouraging and smooth, and the discussions will continue Tuesday (September 3, 2013) with all the aggrieved governors in attendance

Funny how southwest governors are minding their businesses without interrupting or putting mouth in this matter and developing their states like they have a deadline.
This is one of the benefits of being the opposition. Lol

the major question we should ask is "why are this things happening"? the only answer to it is bcus "the core-north want power back".

the next question is did we (other Nigerian tribes) want that? "NO"

another question is "to whose benefit"? answer is to continue their arewa grip on naija.

those singing ATIKUs song should be careful else we all we live to see the effect of Fulani/hausa domination.
no matter how you hate a man don't go ahead approve of every evil thing against him because some of it might affect u too.

My brother, the key words here are: hausa/fulani and yorob.a alliance. An alliance that has crippled nigeria for over 5 decades. Some of our people fail to see this thing angry

Every nonesense opinion of people make it to newspaper front page these days. Jonathan, in deference to the which PDP governors? For those who know better, even those against his ambition are getting worried that the guy is not giving the them as much attention as they would have wanted and they resort to sahara reporters to make up the balance.

Smart politicians like Atiku and Lamido are involved in fierce internal battle even within the Kwankwaso camp to scheme each other out and get the President's nod to support them in 2019. The fight is not even much about 2015 anymore, as they know that only God and GEJ can stop the President from contesting and winning the 2015 elections.

Anyday GEJ concede to support Atiku's ambition in 2019 will be the day he leaves that camp, but GEJ like to be second guessed. For Sahara reporters to now put out a headline that GEJ(the very man with ALL the aces) is now the one going after the governors (who are more like pawns in the chessboard of Tony Anenih) is pure delusion. Watch the fragments of power get perfectly aligned before 2015 as concessions are made and interests taken care of.
