A new twist has been introduced to last Saturday’s rerun election in Offa Local Government Area of Kwara State, on Wednesday, when the councillorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Shao South-West ward, Mr Jimoh Afolabi Olawole, who was declared winner alongside others by the Kwara State Independent Electoral Commission (KWASIEC), said he did not win the election.

However, in a swift reaction, the chairman PDP Offa, Mr Goke Rabiu, said Olawole, who claims to be PDP councillorship candidate for Shao South-West was dropped before the election, because he was not part of those who secured a court judgement for a rerun.

“[b]In fact, he had since joined the All Progressives Congress (APC) and was part of their pre-election rally,” he said.

[/b]Similarly, the former chairman of Offa Local Government Area, Mr Saheed Popoola, of the APC, also called on all stakeholders to appeal to KWASIEC to release the “authentic” results, which he claimed he won, with all the councillors of the party.

Speaking at a press conference in Offa, on Wednesday, Mr Olawole and some other APC stalwarts, said the denouncement of the victory awarded by KWASIEC became necessary, because “as a true son of Offa, I stand for equity and justice.

“I did not win that election in all the eight polling units, APC won convincingly. We didn’t win. I am a loyal member of the PDP, but first and foremost, I am a Muslim and as a person, I won’t allow anyone to take what belongs to me, neither will I take what belongs to another,” Olawole said.

Popoola also said he would do everything possible within the ambit of law and democratic rights to retrieve this mandate and exercise it to the benefit of the people of Offa and to the glory of God.

“We shall not rest, we shall not sleep and we will not be tired, until the people’s mandate is respected and the rightful candidate is sworn in.

“It is going to be struggle, but we are ready for it in the most decent manner. We have petitioned the Radio Kwara for breaching the electoral laws by announcing the results when it should be announced at the polling centres.

“We have also petitioned KWASIEC for making itself an appendage of the PDP.

“In the next one month, I can say that we will get them out of that place by all legal means, because the place does not belong to them.”

A) If he was not part of those who secured court judgment for a rerun, being the PDP candidate in the nullified election, why was PDP included in the ballot papers?

B) It is not unlawful to substitute the name of a candidate in a rerun election when he or she has not publicly renounced his membership of the party, suspended or expelled from the party. To claim that he wasn't PDP's candidate for the rerun is inadmissible. For the mere fact that the Chairman PDP Offa failed to give the name of the candidate who replaced him for that ward election is evident that it is a brazen-faced lie .

C) If we are to buy the empty excuse given by the Chairman PDP Offa, meaning that PDP did not contest for the councillorship election in that ward. So where did KWASIEC manufacture the votes recorded for PDP from ?

D) Why did the State Electoral Commission claim that PDP won in that particular ward when the court did not include the PDP's candidate for the rerun election in that ward? Institutional incompetence ?

Individuals don't run for elections in Nigeria. Political parties does. If ALL legal requirements were fulfilled and PDP won the election, he can decide to repudiate his party's victory and refuse to be sworn in. His party will immediately shop for his replacement and nothing changes.

Guess you overlooked where the Chairman stated that "because he was not part of those who secured a court judgment for a rerun". He represented the party in the nullified election, so if he wasn't part of those who secured a court judgment for a rerun, it means PDP shouldn't have been included in the rerun.

What a shame!! He wasn't their candidate, yet they allowed him represent them at the polls, rejoiced over his victory, and then turned around to denounce him after he spilled the beans.

There isn't a shread of honesty in what this man is sayin. Even a todler can figure that out.

Offa Rerun: Documents Reveal PDP Chairman Lied On Candidate Who Rejected His Victory

When Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) councillorship candidate for Shawo South West ward during the rerun election in Offa Local Government Area of Kwara State, Afolabi Olawole, rejected the victory alloted to him by the Kwara State Independent Electoral Commission (KWASIEC), the PDP leadership in the area was quick to disown him.

According to Goke Rabiu, PDP Chairman in Offa Local Government, Olawole had been dropped as the party candidate well before the election because he (Olawole) was not part of those who secured a court judgment for the rerun.

However, fresh documents in possession of thegazellenews.com has revealed that Goke Rabiu, and in extension, his party are liars.

According to the scanned documents, Olawole’s name was displayed as the PDP’s candidate for the ward in question and put on notice by KWASIEC prior to the election. In fact, on the list displayed by KWASIEC, Olawole’s name was listed on number six.

Apart from this, another document, the scanned court paper in which Olawole challenged the victory of the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Adefioye Kayode, in the previous election.

It was on the basis of this particular court case that Adefioye’s victory was nullified and a rerun was ordered.

In essence, the lies by Goke Rabiu that Olawole’s was not the party’s candidate and that he was not part of the group that challenged the victory of APC in law court fell flat in his face.

Nigerians in general and Kwarans in particular are waiting for more lies from the PDP leadership in Offa and Kwara State as a whole.
