Nigeria’s coach Stephen Keshi has dismissed claims that he had anything to do with Sunday Mba’s proposed move to AC Bastia. The Warri Wolves player was believed to be on his way to the Ligue 2 club only to see his dream move to a European club stall at the final hurdle.

Reports in Nigeria alleged that the 25-year-old’s move did not materialise because of a disagreement between Keshi and Warri Wolves boss Amaju Pinnick over how the transfer fee would be shared.

Keshi has, however, denied any involvement in the scuppered deal and insists he is mostly surprised that Mba did not seal his move to the Corsica club.

“I have absolutely no idea about what this is all about,” Keshi told SuperSport. “My attention was called to the story and I am as baffled by the insinuations of it all. This story has all the hallmarks of people sponsored to cause disharmony in the camp so that we will fail and then Keshi will be blamed.

"It is still a matter of great surprise to me that there are people charged with our football that would rather the team failed first."

Mba, along with the rest of the Super Eagles squad are currently based in a very rainy Calabar as they prepare for their crucial World Cup Qualifier with Malawi and Keshi insists the team is fully focused on getting a good result.

"Everyone in camp is determined, no distractions of any kind at all mentally," the AFCON-winning manager added.
