While the Global Call to Action Against Poverty (GCAP) challenges the structures and institutions that perpetuate poverty and inequality, the Feminist Task Force (FTF) promotes a women’s rights agenda and calls for Gender Equality to End Poverty. Both groups have taken serious exception to a jocular comment credited to the Russian Finance Minister and have called for urgent actions to bridge the widening gender gap and ensure gender sensitivity among leaders and especially policy makers.
At the G20 Summit in St. Petersburg, Russian Finance Minister Anton Siluanov joked towards the end of a briefing on Financial Inclusion that “women consume a lot, so they need help with their financial management”.
