Been watching all u guys been discussing here and can't help laugh at some, feel sympathy at others

In these days, the type of car u drive depends on what will be done to it if it gets snatched.
New cars are like ly to be sold, fairly used and Tokunbos are most likely get away

Again i do like to know what constitutes a "CATCHY" car
is it a car in the class of BMW, Mercedes, Jaguar, Range Rover, Lexus, Maybach etc that are very classy and expensive but can't find ready buyers because of their luxurious and maintenance expenses?

Or

Is ot the Honda, Toyota etc that are like Pure water and can be found any and anywhere comparatively cheap, easy to maintain and fuel efficient and also are driven by both the Upper, Middle and Lower rungs people of the society.

I tell you, it will be very difficult for anyone to steal a BMW 7series or cars in its class because, the people that will buy such a car are not ur every day young and upwardly mobile executives/upstarts
Its gonna be a big man. Cos just a change of oil is likely to cost u the price of a Brand new PICANTO

All said, security measures are for cases like this and should only take a little more of ur income but if it gives u peace of mind, why not
A comprehensive insurance will guarantee your car is replaced if it gets unfoundable(pardon my grammar)
A car tracker will be installed by the insurer to help you monitor its movement
Most of these high flying Logistics Coys use this medium to track their fleet.

Above all, you belief in God ultimately guarantee EVERYTHING as all stated above are all human creations that are very prone to failure


As for those writing off the Skoda, realise that its the Volk Wagen plant in Czech Republic but operating under a different Business Name due to the franchise and partnership. So it has the same engine, model and designs as with the Golf (ie Fabia).

There is no basis for comparing a VW and a Honda. We should realise that every manufacturer has its way and factor for making and marketing its brand
The Honda guys are more of aesthetics and beauty as compared to the Germans who are about sustainability, ruggedness and efficiency. Moreover, these Japanese don't develop anything but opy from Europe and America. The Macpherson strut being used by Mercedes is being now used in Toyota but its a development of the Germans.
SO nkc and KC, the Volks Wagen Jetta is not in the same range with the Accord but i still prefer it to the to the Accord. A more similar comparison would have been with the Civic.

Why not try a Nissan Tiida if u are aafraid of the "CATCHY" machines
Also a Mitsubushi Gallant. They aren't as catchy and popular as the Hondas and Toyotas but also as durable and strong as they are
Ur next option will be the Germans with the VWs, AUDIs and BMWs which are expensive
Another option, Try the Ford Family. They have greatly improved in fuel efficiency(this was their wahala). The new Mondeo, Focus and the Rav4 version ECOSPORTS
Suzuki is another good make. I am giving these suggestions out of PERSONAL experience. I have had a driving experience of all these cars and i bet U the Catchy cars are in for a run on their money and market share. If u are ready to buy one, try any of these and u will not regret this advice.

I'm surprised Chevrolet cars are being critisized here in the area of fuel consumption. I use a Chevrolet (Aveo) and have abosolutely no complaints about the car. In fact i purposely tested its fuel consumption last week. I filled my tank on Friday on the way back home from the office, travelled to Ibadan on Saturday, toured different parts of Ibadan, came back to Lagos on Sunday and still had enough fuel to carry me through Monday(to and from the office) and Tuesday morning. I stay on the Mainland but work on the Island (Lagos). Now if that is not good fuel consumption, what is? I'v used the car for almost a year and have absolutely no regrets

I would also recommend a Skoda anytime. I have a number of people around me who use the brand and they all have good stories to tell. it is a rugged brand. My brother uses both Octavia and Superb ( both Skoda brands) and is planning getting the new Octavia for his wife!

Sometimes the best way to find out the best car to buy is asking people using the brands u are considering and which brands have cult followership. It is atimes an indicator of satisfaction derived from its performance. And of course, some of the security issues mentioned are very, very important.

seriously I don't think that your car had any form of tracking device and this days, the thieves keep the drivers long enough to know where the immobilizers are.with the tracking devices which are know web based thanks to the growth of the GPRS platform, the position of your vehicle can be determined online realtime yourself with a laptop or desktop provided you have internet connection.this wasn't the case until recently, what we had then was the GPS platform which was sms based (and that had its many hiccups believe me).I have been in this industry long enough to know.
For those that ready to do away with the computer village tracking version that can report only to your phone( which has no map (not trying to run anybody's biz down but, ) you'll understand that comprehensive insurance doest just cover it all.The more tracking devices in cars the more recoveries that will be made will in turn drop the rate because it'll no longer be a case of business as usual for the thieves.We cant allow thieves dictate what cars to drive for us

Clearly, these guys have a preference for particular types of cars, why not diversify your tastes and move from all things Japanese and German.

The usual excuse is spare parts and mechanics, this is an e-commerce world, we have credit cards in Nigeria now, you can buy parts globally indeed a whole engine and within 72 hrs you’ve got it. I am almost certain that you can get new parts cheaper than from all those main Toyota, Nissan, Ford dealers in Lagos incl. freight.

When in Lagos I drive a 2001 Chevy Impala V8 it’s not exactly flashy but it gets the job done without any hassle at all, had it for near 3 years no problems. Next car will be either an avalanche or a F150 with a big bull guard to swipe possible bandits.

If you do your research you can get a sharp reliable car could be American, Chevy, Dodge, Ford, Cadillac, etc or Swedish Volvo or Saab.

Chevy Impala!!! That has won several awards in the US. I particularly like the 07 model. The Avalanche is in my list but I cant park that in the close to my office. Na road I go dey park.

The impala is the car the US police use quite a lot, so i have found it to be quite strong and reliable (our roads) the suspension can deal with most of what is called every day driving in Lagos.

The power and acceleration to run when you need to, fuel economy is not great but OK for a V6 3.8, personally i would not leave a 2007 model Lagos unless i was spending a lot more time there. But if you've got $ then go ahead, also i am pretty sure it will not be a car that the thieves will target.
