The Falling Standard Of Nigerian Education; Who I̶̲̥̅̊s̶̲̥̅̊ To Blame? by Nobody: 11:08am On Sep 09, 2013
A post lyk dis I̶̲̥̅̊s̶̲̥̅̊ not rily new here, but I need ϔ☺Ůȑ views on dis issue of g8t national importance. It I̶̲̥̅̊s̶̲̥̅̊ a well known fact all over d world dat education I̶̲̥̅̊s̶̲̥̅̊ d best legacy. For a country to develop nd progress in all ramifications, a g8t deal of attention must paid to d education sector. Puting such fact to cognizance, nations all ova d world have placed the education of dere citizens, most especially the young as a g8t priority, reasons why such nations witness immense development, but sadly in Nigeria 2da, dere has been no advancement in d education sector, rada it I̶̲̥̅̊s̶̲̥̅̊ characterised by a consistent case of deterioration of values nd standards. Thus 2da in Nigeria, instead of education being the best legacy U can offer 2 a child, it I̶̲̥̅̊s̶̲̥̅̊ one of the worst legacies dat can b offered to a child. D education sector has been so neglected dat one often wonders if we have a govt in Nigeria.
The deterioration I will say grew in proportion during d den military regime of Olusegun Obasanjo wen in d 1970s he abolished d free feeding nd other concessions students enjoyed especially in d tertiary institutions. All dese I learned frm a professor who skuld in d 60s nd was lamenting d present state of education in d country. Afta Obasanajo, subsequent regimes paid less attention to education, nd it countinued 2 increase nd evn worse under d Jonathan administration. One wud av expected dat under d Jonathan administration, attention given to education wud improve, rada it has not, nd one often wondas dat dis man was once an academic.
2da placement into educational institutions especially d tertiary institutions, I̶̲̥̅̊s̶̲̥̅̊ dat of desperation. Reasns y I frowned g8tly at some ppl who cald d poor hepless innocent students who applied for admission 2 d fake skul run by a native doctor as gullible. Do we blame den? No. I blv we shud blame d ailing system of Nigerian education. Dere I̶̲̥̅̊s̶̲̥̅̊ nid 2 restructure, infact completely ovahaul our education system, in all ramifications. Let's know where we stand. We are in d 21st century for God's sake!
Even tho parents nd d youths of 2da shud share in d blame for d falling standard of education in Nigeria 2da, I blv govt shares d guilt d most. Ow can d whole education sector be allocated a miserly 8.6% of our budget for God's sake! All nations have realised dat paying attention 2 education in all ramifications I̶̲̥̅̊s̶̲̥̅̊ d key to achieving d MDGs ( Millenium Goals Development) thus dey pump enof resources into education. But in Nigeria, reverse I̶̲̥̅̊s̶̲̥̅̊ d case education has been politicized nd neglected beyond repair. For Nigeria 2 develop nd progress in all ramifications, urgent attention must b paid 2 d education sector by govt, or we wud continue to grope in d dark as a nation, continue 2 loose our relevance nd prestige as a polity among nations. A nation dat ignores education will lost evrytn.
