Olu, Warri chiefs perfect truce

Normalcy returned to Warri, Delta State yesterday after the Olu of Warri, Ogiame Atuwatse 11, on Tuesday bowed to pressure over the crisis generated by the controversial “new order in Iwere kingdom.” The monarch later met with his chiefs. The edict had banned the use of Ogiame to address him as well as rejected obeisance and other traditional homage from his people.
He also outlawed the Itsekiri anthem, Ara Lorire.
He said the title connotes allegiance to a water goddess, Umalokun.However, the siege and general outcry by his subjects from within and outside the country, prompted the U-turn by the monarch.
Although the nitty-gritty of Wednesday’s meeting was not released to reporters, it was gathered that it was aimed at ironing the details of Tuesday’s truce, which culminated in the monarch sanctioning a return to the old order.
