Siena: The first thig I did was have my pal run a full scan of all modules in the car. As Lancashire is 265 miles away from me, it didn't make sense to drive that far, just to have a "look". If I travel that far, it means I've pretty much made up my mind to purchase.

My pal was up North, so I got hime to check the beast out. With a video link set up, we both did a walk-round inspection, then the interior. All checked out perfect. Then came the scan, using none other than ****. This is dealer level, and hard to beat. Perfect!

All I did this morning was ring up my insurance company, and have the insurance on my sold Audi A4 Avant Quattro B6 transferred to the new purchase.

My coach departs London Victoria at 17:30, and my travel itinerary reads like this:

Hayes --> London Victoria --> Accrington, Lancashire.

I'm just waiting for my taxi, which I've booked for 16:00 for the first leg of my journey. It's going to be a long trip! I most likely won't be home till 04:30 hours. The journey back promises to be much faster, smoother, luxurous and above all, a darn sight more enjoyable!

I realised, at the last minute, just before I boarded the coach that I'd forgotten to run a HPI check on the car. A good thing too - I paid for a check, and discovered though the car was in great shape, it had outstanding finance against it. There is a £6,377 loan outstanding.!

So while I can still buy the car, it means I will then be liable for the unpaid loan balance, in addition to any funds I'd paid the seller. It always pays to check out a car thoroughly.

The search continues - I've spotted another car, and run a check against the license plate, and found no outstanding finance marked against it. I'll call the seller tomorrow, and take things from there.

Phew, you dodged that bullet. I would have used that to negotiate with the seller, bring it to his attention. Unless the car price is less than that..
Did you tell the seller when you found out about the finance? I would wana see the look on his face..

Things i check before buying any car regardless of age, are HPI and MOT HISTORY.
HPI CHECK - For finance issues, accident history and mileage verifications
MOT HISTORY - Also for mileage verification and failure or advisory status

I always do the same too - regardless of how cheap the car is. The MOT history and status checked up (I used the Document Reference Number to check). I just got distracted on the HPI check, and forgot. I only remembered at the last minute. Saved by the bell, huh?
