The main aim of this topic is to teach us not to be familiar with God,but to seek Divine Intimacy with Him(God),There are two words we really need to look at carefully so as to be able to understand the implication of this topic,they are:
Familiarity: Which means a situation where you know someone too well that you begin to find faults in that person and accord less respect for the person..
Intimacy: Which means having a close personal relationship with someone which is just more than knowing the person but rather being close to the person that you admire,love and even cherish whatever he/she does and willing to give up your life for the person.
In Acts 19:1-16,from verse 2,He said unto them “Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?” So they said to him, “We have not so much as heard whether there is a Holy Spirit.” 3 And he said to them, “Into what then were you baptized?” So they said, “Into John’s baptism.” 4 Then Paul said, “John indeed baptized with a baptism of repentance, saying to the people that they should believe on Him who would come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus.” 5 When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. 6 And when Paul had laid hands on them, the Holy Spirit came upon them, and they spoke with tongues and prophesied.
In verse 9: But when some were hardened and did not believe, but spoke evil of the Way before the multitude, he departed from them and withdrew the disciples, reasoning daily in the school of Tyrannus. 10 And this continued for two years, so that all who dwelt in Asia heard the word of the Lord Jesus, both Jews and Greeks.

11 Now God worked unusual miracles by the hands of Paul, 12 so that even handkerchiefs or aprons were brought from his body to the sick, and the diseases left them and the evil spirits went out of them. 13 Then some of the itinerant Jewish exorcists took it upon themselves to call the name of the Lord Jesus over those who had evil spirits, saying, “We exorcise you by the Jesus whom Paul preaches.” 14 Also there were seven sons of Sceva, a Jewish chief priest, who did so. 15 And the evil spirit answered and said, “Jesus I know, and Paul I know; but who are you?” 16 Then the man in whom the evil spirit was leaped on them, overpowered them, and prevailed against them, so that they fled out of that house naked and wounded..
The sons of Sceva where familiar with God that they lost intimacy with the holy spirit and were disgraced by the evil spirit,they only knew Jesus but do not have this intimate relationship with Him(holy spirit)
Also in the book of Mark 6:1-6 in verse 4, it says: But Jesus said to them, “A prophet is not without honor except in his own country, among his own relatives, and in his own house.” 5 Now He could do no mighty work there, except that He laid His hands on a few sick people and healed them. 6 And He marveled because of their unbelief. Then He went about the villages in a circuit, teaching.
Also from the above,The Nazarenes knew Jesus as the son of the carpenter,the son of Mary and with His brothers and sisters,because of this Familiarity,they did not respect him as a prophet hence loosing the intimacy they would have had with Him and the lessons and miracles that would have taken place as a result of the intimacy.
So many today are Familiar with God and do not have the intimate relationship with Him,we sometimes think we know too much,we disrespect the servants of God(Pastors and Priests) on earth maybe because we knew them well even before they became God's Own,therefore we treat them without respect thereby loosing out in the blessings which follow them and which we ought to gain from them and another example is on our activities when in the presence of God,we make noise,press phones,talk and do all sorts of things we like because we feel God is not in His Physical nature watching us,we forget that we are in a Holy Place(Church) and therefore should be silent and expect great teachings and blessings from God...The Nazarenes' familiarity with Jesus deprived them of great opportunities of having an intimate communion with Him,hence Jesus chose to take His massage and blessings else where.This tragedy can befall us when we become familiar with God and loose Intimacy with Him.
We have to pay close attention to the Word of God and serve Him wholeheartedly as this will yeild greater blessings to Us...
Seek Intimacy with God rather than Familiarity,for"Familiarity breeds contempt"
