I just saw a funny twitter category #NigerianBloggers and I can't stop laughing. I don't know who created it, but I think it makes a lot of sense. It highlights some of the ridiculous headlines/stories posted by Nigerian bloggers in a bid to draw readers and increase their fan base.

But on a serious note, Nigerian bloggers overdo it sometimes- misleading titles, unverified stories, rumour-mongering, name-calling, off-point stories, poor editing, inept use of language, lack of censorship/discretion, soft porn; the list is endless!

From my observation, this is more common on entertainment and gossip blogs. We bloggers need to raise our game a notch higher- doing some kind of journalistic course is not a bad idea.

Another one I find amusing, is the trend by some bloggers to highlight their names at the centre of pictures, defacing the image. No professional does that. It does not prove that you have copyright over the picture.

Professionals put their logos on one of the 4 corners of the image or as a transparent watermark at the centre. Please stop defacing the images of Naija celebs! Usually, these are pictures you don't have exclusive rights to- when you stamp your name on it, you are a semi-thief! LOL!

Remember too, professionals credit their sources. It's always a good idea to insert a link to your source.

On second thought- perhaps a society gets the kind of bloggers it deserves! The so-called trash stories trend like crazy!
