Re: Yoruba Proverb Competition by Olorididan(m): 11:32pm On Feb 09, 2006
Olorididan:

complete this proverb

akoko-niko............

Thought to complete this... nearly forgotten about it...

" akoko-niko... a p'ooni ma je_e"

in yoruba..

"akoko-niko" is a type of small fresh water fish with long spike running accross it spine which can be made to come out when the fish feels threatened.....

"ooni" is yoruba for crocodile

literally traslated the saying is ".... the small fish that kills a crocodile but does not eat it..."

- when a croc makes the mistake of taking in one of these fish, the fish extends its spike aand chokes the crocodile to death......

so.... NO MATTER HOW SMALL SOMEONE TELLS U U ARE, OR HOW BIG THEY SEEM.... MAKE IT CLEAR TO'EM THEY CAN'T F**K WIT U.......

My yoruba proverb is
"Aje ku lano ,omo ku leni bawo laase mo pe aje toku lano ko lo pomo je"

Meaning:The witch died yesterday, the child died today, how do we know if the witch who died yesterday wasn't the one who killed the child.

"Oju lari, a o rinu"

Meaning: We see your face, though we don't know what's really inside of you.

"Omo olomo ole da bomo eni"

Meaning: Someone else's child can't be like yours

"Opolopo alangba lon danu de le a o meyi tinu ru'n nu won"

Meaning:We have so many friends and family but we don't which one is just pretending and is not really happy for you"

"Owo po lowo mi"

Meaning: That you are kinda broke right now

"Taba fowo otun bomo wi , atu fowo osi famora"

Meaning:When you discipline a child with your right hand, take your left hand and hug them(after discipling a child remember 2 let them fill loved again but let them realise what they did was wrong) smiley
