Nigeria Senate To Investigate Killing Of 7 Homeless People By Security Officials by MrAladin: 6:15pm On Sep 24, 2013 |
Soldiers and officers of the SSS killed the victims on September 20. The Senate has ordered an investigation into the killing of at least seven people by Nigerian security agencies in Apo, Abuja, on Friday, last week. The Senate mandated its committees on security, judiciary and human rights to investigate the killings. At least seven people were killed and about a dozen injured when soldiers and officers of the Department of State Security Service, SSS, stormed an uncompleted building in Apo area of Abuja. While the SSS later claimed it was fired at by suspected Boko Haram gunmen before a gun battle ensued leading to the deaths, a PREMIUM TIMES investigation showed that the victims were unarmed homeless men many of whom are petty traders and tricycle riders; and who had been asked to leave the house by the owner of the building. www.premiumtimesng.com/news/145345-nigeria-senate-investigate-killing-7-homeless-people-security-officials-abuja.html |
