The Governor of Delta State, Dr Emmanuel Uduaghan has said that the Direct Labour Agency (DLA) road in Asaba would be completed before the end of the year.
Giving the assurance yesterday while speaking with residents of the area during an unscheduled inspection of the road, Governor Uduaghan said that once the rains are over, the asphalting of the road would be completed.
While noting that the drainage and walkway on the road has been completed, the governor said that the construction of the road would be completed once the rains are over, noting that “this road would be completed before December.”
“It is waste of money to tar the road during the rain, because, we will have to rechannel the water to enable us construct the road,” the governor said  and called for patience from residents of the area as the construction would be completed within the timeframe.
He observed that the DLA road has been bad for a long time and his administration was committed to ensuring a quality project that would stand the test of time.
Residents of the area, who spoke at the occasion, thanked Governor Uduaghan for constructing the road, stating that when completed, there would be easy movement of commuters and motorists
They said that they have suffered a lot of hardship as a result of the bad nature of the road, but, noted however that with the construction of the road, their pains would be relieved.
In a related development, Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan has said that the contractor handling the Government Hospital, Asaba has been given 18 months to complete the project.
Speaking shortly after inspecting the level of work done in the hospital, the governor said the project was delayed because multiple contractors were given the project, disclosing that the contracts had to be cancelled and re-awarded to a contractor that has a track-record of delivering quality jobs.
According to him, the contractor is remodeling the hospital and would complete the project within 18 months.
