The escort vehicle in the convoy of His Excellency, Yomi Awoniyi, Kogi State Deputy Governor, was this afternoon hit by a Mercedes Benz jeep with Lagos registration No YAB 966 AQ in a motor accident at Yangoji,in Kwali, along Abuja- Lokoja highway.
The escort was among the four vehicles in the Deputy Governor's convoy.
Other vehicles in the convoy escaped been hit by the Mercedes Benz jeep.
Eye witness report said a Honda Accord with Lagos registration No LND 742 BE, lost control as a result of over taking while trying to overtake the Mercedes Benz jeep that was also heading to Abuja.
The accident which occurred at about 2pm had the driver and four policemen who were behind the escort sustaining minor injuries.
The injured persons are now stable and are receiving medical attention at the Kwali General Hospital.
The Deputy Governor was on his way to Lokoja after an official engagement in Abuja.
In a statement issued by Abu Michael, Chief Press Secretary to the Deputy Governor, in lokoja,the Chief Security Officer to the Deputy Governor, ASP Alao Azziz wished the injured policemen quick recovery.
The two drivers that caused the accident could not be reached as they immediately fled into the bush for fear of reprisal for driving into the Deputy Governor's convoy.
The Kogi State Governor Capt Idris Wada has been briefed and has also expressed sympathy for the injured policemen.
The Chief Security Officer to the Deputy Governor, cautioned drivers on excessive speeding and dangerous overtaking adding that, if the Honda was a little bit patient the accident would have been avoided.
