His mum also donated a hospital to the Kano State Government in 2003. The Dangote Foundation and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation have promised to donate millions of dollars towards the eradication of polio in Kano State.

BrightCar: GOOD, BUT JUST 1000 BED? DANGOTE YOU CAN DO BETTER.

That 1000 bed hospital when finished is supposed to be the best in Africa and intended to stave off medical tourism by Nigerians needing to travel abroad for treatment; similarly also for the theatre complex (5- storey high) and the state of the art diagnostic centre at Murtala Mohammed Specialist Hospital Kano, where the poor will only be charged for services at cost price (elites at full price) - the latter will be built and fully equipped at 2 billion Naira (no small change by any regards); BTW, nobody told me this, I was actually physically there yesterday at the foundation laying ceremony and heard it myself.

As from next year, should you in case need medical treatment, pls don't carry your dollars abroad; come to Kano and we'll collect it, make you better and send you home - no shaking; next time though, pls choose your words well before you criticise.

naptu2: The Dantata/Dangote family have always been involved in charity work. However these deeds often go unnoticed, because of the family's principles of maintaining privacy and lack of flamboyance.

Al-Hassan Dantata was passionate about education. He backed the establishment of a western style school in the Dala area for hausa (I.e non-fulani) traders' children in the 1930s and established the Dantata english and arabic school in 1944.

Mariya Dangote (Aliko Dangote's mother) donated a hospital, which she built at Rijiya Lemu, to the Kano State Government in 2003.

Aliko Dangote has made the following charitable contributions:

2.5 billion naira to the national fund for flood victims in 2012. 430 million naira to Kogi flood victims. 100 million naira to Sokoto flood victims. $2 million to Pakistan's flood victims. 120 million naira to fight famine in Niger. 600 million naira to women empowerment and free school feeding schemes in Kano State. 500 student capacity hall at Kano State University. 10 million naira annual scholarship for Benue students. $2 million to African Young Leaders fellowship in conjunction with the Forum For Young Global Leaders. $1 million towards education and women empowerment in Tanzania. 1 billion naira to states suffering from the Boko Haram insurgency. And many more

He established the Dangote Foundation which is the philanthropic arm of the dangote Group where yearly he spends millions for worthy causes such as contributions to educational and healthcare institutions, sinking of boreholes and giving of scholarships.

The Dangote Foundation and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation have jointly pledged to donate huge sums of money towards the eradication of polio in Kano State.

He also established the Dangote Academy.

my question still remains that why are the Northern elite not sponsoring or investing in education?

Bobby4090: "Mr. Dangote announced this while laying the foundation of Mariya Sanusi Dantata Ultra-Modern Theatre and diagnostic complex at Murtala Muhammed Hospital in Kano metropolis."

So why must Government always be involved in anything concerning Dangote. Why must he be allocated choice land to build his private hospital inside the premises of a Government Hospital in central Kano.

Are you a hater? Why quote something you don't understand then give a speech on it? He made the announcement while in the hospital compound....how can you interpret that to mean he was building his hospital in the same compound? @topic....this man is a patriot and showing it through works and not words. I hope his works can somehow cause others to look inside of Nigeria instead of abroad.

Don't mind the hater, Dangote merely requested for government to site any place of its choosing for him to build the proposed hospital, after which he'll hand it over to the said government - its not for himself but for the government and ppl of Kano State.

Some ppl just de jealous.

spade:

The richest man in the great China is worth just 14 billion dollars o, so even Dangote pass am! You can now imagine.

Bros, there is no doubt that Dangote is enjoying Government's patronage, in fact i believe He is helping looters of public funds e.g OBJ, GEJ etc to invest their stolen wealth. So all that big amount Dangote is worth is probably not his alone.

But what trips me about the man is the ability to build a business empire in Nigeria, where so many have failed or have simply run away to invest abroad. it is that ability that i respect him for. The same reason I respect Adenuga, Fola Adeola and the likes; but Dangote still stands out among others. Because unlike so many of the super rich Nigerians, whose wealth was built from having favoured access to Nigeria's Crude Oil, Dangote's wealth originated from the manufacturing industry and He really worked hard for it.

Mr. Dangote should as a matter of urgency invest heavily in the education and enlightenment in the retrogressive and dreadful northern region. although this project is a laudable one, he must realize that Boko-Haram remains a singular threat and menace to such and other establishments in the North. he might just complete the project in time for Boko-Haram to destroy the whole place, omo ti aa ooko ni yio gbe ile ti a koo taa...
