A plane crash has been reported in Lagos. Former governor of Ondo State, Dr. Olusegun Agagu’s son and Chief Olu Falae's first son, Deji Falae were in the plane. The plane was said to have suffered an engine failure shortly after takeoff.

General Manager, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, Dr. Femi Oke-Osayintolu, confirmed to the News Agency of Nigeria that 11 passengers died while 4 others have been hospitalised.

Immediately news of the crash filtered into Akure, the venue of the lying-in-state for the late governor, Democracy Park, was deserted.

The Associated Airlines passenger plane conveying the remains of the former and some family members to the state capital, Akure, crashed on Thursday morning near a fuel dump located at Murtala Muhammed Airport in Lagos.

The plane was on a chartered flight to Akure Airport and was conveying Agagu's corpse and some members of his family when the incident occurred.

However, unconfirmed reports have it that the owner of MIC Casket, Mr. Okusanya and his son were also onboard and feared dead. Also reported to have been on the flight is, Gbenga, a son of former President Olusegun Obasanjo.

There were at least 20 passengers onboard when the plane crashed at the local wing of the airport close to the section were JET-A1, plane fuel, is stored. Fire service officials are at the scene. More details later.

*PS 1: The son of the late former Governor of Ondo State, Dr. Olusegun Agagu, Feyi, Thursday survived the Associated Airlines plane crash in Lagos. Feyi was said to have sustained non-life threatening injuries in the crash that left 17 passengers on board dead.

*PS 2: The body of the late former Governor of Ondo State, Dr. Olusegun Agagu, has been recovered in the Associated Airlines plane that crashed in Lagos.
