Syncan:
From Today's reading. Hos 14:2-10.

Thus says the LORD:Return, O Israel, to the LORD, your God;you have collapsed through your guilt.Take with you words, and return to the LORD; Say to him...We shall say no more, ‘Our god,’ to the work of our hands;.....

Isn't it interesting when we look at ourselves and affirm that we are not idolaters. That we have no strange God. Is this really true? At this moment in my life, is there an offense against God I seem not to be able to desist from? Is there something in my life at present that I am trying to justify by all means just because I feel helpless to stop? Is there an a sin I take lightly or normal because I can't stop from doing it? Why is this offense difficult to stop, what's at stake? My Job, My relationship, My financial state, My social image, My comfort, etc. Each of these constitute a god to me when to satisfy it comes first before God in my life. When we offend God to satisfy any of these constantly, we often say to ourselves "I will amend my life later", oh brethren, how many are they that have gone to the grave, who did not fulfill their tomorrow plans. Today we are called to look into our lives in this aspect of recurrent sins, from the ones we call venial; to the ones that is keeping us from approaching the Eucharist. "Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or unclothedness, or peril, or sword?..." Rom 8:35-

From the gospel: One of the scribes came to Jesus and asked him, “Which is the first of all the commandments?” Jesus replied, “The first is this: Hear, O Israel! The Lord our God is Lord alone! You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength. MK 12:28-34

The Master had to call the attention of all, this was a very important information, not for just those around him. He had to address the whole nation, "Hear, O Israel"! He shouted. God has to be the first in all considerations, in all decisions, in all actions and even inaction. May the good Lord have mercy on us for the various gods we've made in our lives, and by the fruits of this Lenten season tear us out of these bondage. Remember Syncan in your prayers too.

Good morning brethren, a splendid day ahead to all.
A wonderful morning to you. Enjoy your day.

Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known that anyone who fled to thy protection, implored thy help, or sought thine intercession was left unaided.

Inspired by this confidence, we fly unto thee, O Virgin of virgins, our mother; to thee do we come, before thee we stand, sinful and sorrowful. O Mother of the Word Incarnate, despise not our petitions, but in thy mercy hear and answer us. Amen

Good morning brethren

LENTEN PACKAGE FOR WEEKEND: Hosea 15:15-6:1-6, Lk. 18:9-14. Jesus in today's Gospel presents two contrasting personalities: one faithfully obeying the law to the smallest detail and the other considering himself to be a sinner because he served the interest of the Roman exploiters. What is striking, however, is the difference between their manner of praying. The Pharisee hardly prays at all. By boasting about his "righteousness", he simply pleases himself and not God. He is, in effect, denying that he needs God. He also exalts himself at the expense of others. The parable immediately makes clear that he entered the Temple without humility and love. He is the centre of his own thoughts and self-appraisal. Everything he did - the fasting, the paying of tithes - was good. But all the goodness of these works was, however undone by his pride: he attributed merit to himself and he had contempt for others. Both humility and charity were lacking, and without these there can be neither good works nor any virtue. In contrast, the tax collector humbly acknowledges his sinfulness and sincerely begs God's forgiveness. This is the essence of true prayer - a simple acknowledgement of one's sinfulness and nothingness before God manifesting one's need for God. This is the point of the prophet Hosea in the first reading. He enjoins us to return to the Lord. "Though He has torn us to pieces, He will heal us." So, let us turn to the throne of grace with humility of heart seeking for mercy. May the Lord grant us His mercy and show us His steadfast love! Amen!! Good morning and happy weekend!!!

Great. I had expected the CBCN to mandate this in all dioceses. We really need what happened in 1571 to happen again.

LENTEN SUNDAY BANQUET: 2 Chron. 36:14-23, Eph. 2:4-10, Jn. 3:14-21. Joy is essentially a Christian characteristic, and in this day the Church invites us to rejoice as we celebrate the Laetare Sunday. While it a call to rejoice, it does not ask us to relent in our work with Christ, it is a call to accept the offer of God’s Grace. It is a call to get prepared to walk away from our captivity and exile, into our freedom and salvation. The first reading presents to us what seem to be the two sides of a coin. That is, the wrath and the mercy of God. These are revealed in both, the exile and liberation of His people. Three complaints were made against Israel and their leaders. "That they were unfaithful; they defiled the temple; and, they laughed at the prophets.” This merited them deportation and exile. In spite of this, God decided to restore them at his own time. When God is ready to liberate us, we must respond positively to His offer in order to be liberated from both physical and spiritual captivity and exile. It is only through this that our joy will be complete. In the second reading, Paul reminds us of our terrible state and what God did in order to redeem us. The Gospel presents us with one of the most quoted verse of the bible: “For God so loved the world that he gave his only son...” (Jn 3, 16). This is good news and a great source of joy for all of us. However, it is important to note also that this is an offer. In other words, as an offer, it is free. So, one can accept, or reject it because, it is not imposed on anyone. Therefore our state of salvation is dependent upon on our appreciation and acceptance of the grace of God through our Lord Jesus Christ. He has made redemption and salvation available this season. On our part, we must be ready to accept it. We must be ready to believe in Him, and to live the Good life. May the Lord grant us more of His grace and blessing! Amen!! Good morning and happy Sunday!!!

LENTEN APPETISER: Isaiah 65:17-21, Jn 4:43-54. The royal official approaches Jesus with a grave personal concern: the life of his son. His request expresses great confidence in Jesus, in the Teacher's power and goodness. Jesus responds accordingly: "You may go; your son will live." He invites the official to a deeper faith: simply believe in the word of Jesus. Without seeing the miracle, the official believes; his faith is rewarded with the healing of his son. Lent is the appropriate time for us to reflect on our faith-relationship with Jesus. Do we have the kind of faith which believes and acts on the word of Jesus alone? He chose to believe in Jesus, and his need drove him to travel twenty miles to Cana and beg Jesus to heal his son. Surprisingly, Jesus rebuked him, saying, "Unless you see signs and wonders you will not believe" (Jn 4:48). Through His statement - which was directed to the people as well as to the official - Jesus was calling for a faith that is "the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen" (Heb. 11:1). Do we rely on human intelligence, our limited perspective, and our own small ability to control events? When we choose to believe in God, we open ourselves to His peace, even in the most disturbing circumstances. If we rely only on human reasoning, we risk failure and, along with it, discouragement, frustration, and fear. May the Lord grant us a lively faith animated by charity! Amen!! Good morning, have a successful and fulfilled working week!!!
