Should Pastors Accept Tithes From Corrupt Politicians? by myners007: 7:19am On Oct 05, 2013
The rate at which many churches are growing, esecially the new generation ones that centred their theme on prosperity. These churches have chains of businesses which include schools, universities, hospitals, food processing companies, etc. One will be tempted to ask where does the fund used in setting up these gigantic industries and institutions come from?It is no news in Nigeria that many corrupt politicians have given handsomely to the church in form of tithe part of their loot. Is it proper?

The problem is Tithes are paid on an individual basis, some pay in cash, with cheque or through online transaction. It's kind of hard to know who and who paid his/her tithe or when they paid it. Some churches register those who pay tithes and could know who gave what, but they are few. Only special donations are quite easy to track. No reasonable church should want to collect tithe from a corrupt politician, but then again you will have to extend such checks and balances to all professionals because thieving politicians are also aided by thieving engineers, accountants, lawyers, etc.

The church needs to scrutinize its source of finance to avoid ridicule, but it goes beyond just politicians.
